Beginning Sunday, September 9 in all of our small groups and both worship services, we are going to explore the topic of heaven. For four Sundays in September, heaven will be on our minds. We will be using the book “Heaven Is For Real” as part of our study. It is the story of Colton Burpo’s incredible story of his trip to heaven and back. We will open God’s Word and study the truths about this place called heaven. In 2003, four year old Colton, the son of Pastor Todd Burpo, underwent an emergency appendectomy. His frightened parents were relieved when he miraculously made it through the surgery. What they did not expect, though, were the stories Colton began to tell of vising heaven. Colton was able to describe exactly what his parents were doing in another part of the hospital during his operaon. Colton relayed stories told to him in heaven by people he had never met in life, about events that happened even before he was born. He also astonished his parents with descripons and details about heaven that exactly matched those in the bible. We will be stacking up the scriptures against the fact of heaven. You will be encouraged and challenged from the Word of God. Many will be comforted by God’s Word concerning this wonderful place that the Lord Jesus is preparing for those who trust and follow Him. New Small Group Starting Sunday NightStuart and Shelley Pritchett will begin a new small

group this Sunday from 6:30 - 8:00 pm in The Pointe. They will be studying the Heaven is for Real material

for the first four weeks and then start “The Purple Book - Biblical Foundations for Building Strong

Disciples.” The group is open to anyone. Please contact Shelley (260-8052) if you are interested in

attending or if you have any questions.

Pastor Search Team UpdateThe Pastor Search Team continues to be in much prayer as we work through the 277 resumes that we received after posting the position as being open. We have received resumes from across the US, including one from Hawaii, and also a couple of resumes from people in Canada. The majority of the resumes we received are from Georgia, SC, NC, and TN.

We have prayerfully gone through these and narrowed it down to a small group of twenty-one Baptist Pastors. We are finding messages, blogs, web pages and anything else online to give us better insight into the ministry of these pastors. We are listening to the sermons and reviewing materials for those that did have stuff online and have requested sermons and other materials from those that did not. We have over the last couple of weeks received additional sermons and are going through those. The only real delays we have right now are getting sermons and materials from those that did not have anything online, and then for us to be able to prayerfully go through each and seek the Lord’s guidance.

We have outlined the doctrinal beliefs and principals that are founded in the Bible to probe with each candidate, but we are in constant prayer that God lead us to what He wants, what direction He sees for the church, who He is preparing. As we have stated before we are praying like Samuel when God sent him to anoint David. How can we go? How will we know the correct one, what should we be looking for? We individually have our own answer to each of these questions, but the answer we want is the one that God wants. We are trying our best to discern the heart of the individuals so we can see that his is a heart for God.

After we have heard all the sermons and looked at all the material that we can, we will narrow this list to the two or three that God appears to be leading us toward (unless He leads us immediately to the one) and start setting up interviews. As we continue the process, we will also begin contacting their references. Then we will determine how best to possibly experience their church without disrupting their current ministry and signaling to the church that the Pastor is looking to leave.

This is a different process than normal business hiring. We are diligently looking for the man God has for Chapin Baptist at this time. We plead with you to continue to pray for us and our church and the man that God has chosen for us. Just like with David, we think that God has already chosen the person that has the heart our community needs. Our goal is to find that Pastor and invite him to come join us in God’s plan.

Thanks,Pastor Search Team

Preschool and Grade School Children’s Ministry Under Construction

We are milling up existing road, adding to our base, and putting a layer of concrete where the old asphalt used to be -- kinda like the work being done on the interstate. What does that mean? Well, if you haven’t noticed, the student ministry uses roadway language to describe their ministries. You have Merge for 6-12th grades and Yield for K-5 - 5th grades. We will be adding a name for the preschool soon. Any suggestions? As we are under construction, we will be making some minor adjustments for greater success (or drivability as they would say at the DOT). Here is an outline of what this means for each age group. Remember - there is never enough help! Don’t be afraid to ask - where can I fit in? Preschool - Not only will we be creating a roadway design, some changes will take place to improve our protection and security for our passengers. This may seem pointless and a little grievous but please bear with us as nothing is more important than the safety of our little ones. New parents / visitors will be given a tour of the facility their first time and thereafter they will drop their kids off at the front desk and a volunteer will take the child/ren back to their classroom. Also, two year olds and up will be picked up on the grade school side at the end of the 11:00 service. Babies- Two Year Olds - There will not be any changes to this group at this time. Three and Four Year Olds - Say Yes to VBS! We all know the kids love VBS. We will be taking some of the structural success from VBS and plugging it into our morning schedule. There will be periods of bible study, worship, crafts and snack that they will rotate through. This means more volunteers will be needed. The children will finish up in Believer’s Bay for worship time. Grade School - The main change on this side is that the 4th and 5th graders will have their own worship service with a lesson that is more of a traditional sermon than a skit. Those in K-5 - 3rd grade will stay in a worship environment that is skit oriented. In order to have all the worship services in Believer’s Bay, the 4th and 5th graders will worship at the 9:45 hour. For Parents - Please remember that worship and small group time for those in Believer’s Bay is just as important as your small group and worship time. Please do not come get them during that time. This disrupts their time and hinders their spiritual growth. Also, never, ever be afraid to ask ... where can I fit in?

Freedom and Hope FoundationFriday the volunteer work crew got all the walls built and in place at the new Freedom and Hope Lodge.

Some wounded warriors came out to assist and had a great time. WIS TV came out and did a news spot which aired Friday evening. The next phase is to set the pre-fabricated trusses and roof sheeting installed. All material is onsite and ready to set trusses within the next two weeks. It would be terrific to have a crane available to get the trusses set in short order.

Things are moving forward with the building project. Hunting season will be here soon and we are getting

prepared for upcoming hunts.

State Fair MinistryPre-Fair Ministry

(October 8-9, 2012)Fair Ministry (October

10-21, 2012)It has been said that “mission begins at home.”

Although this statement may or may not fully communicate a comprehensive mission strategy, it does remind us that we, as Christians, are living in both a mission base and a mission field. The South Carolina State Fair Ministry offers an abundance of mission opportunities right here at home. The dates for this year’s South Carolina State Fair ministry will be October 10-21, and the Pre-Fair ministry will be from October 8-9.

The Lexington Baptist Association needs over 300 volunteers to respond to the needs of the carnival workers, exhibitors, staff and visitors at this year’s fair. Please pray about being a volunteer missionary at your own “back door.” If you would like to volunteer please sign up on the volunteer sheet located at the Information Table. This is a great mission’s opportunity right here at home, and it is also a lot of fun. So please join us! If you have further questions please contact Kahn Chaddock or Chuck Middlebrooks.

Nova Scotia Mission EffortSeveral years ago Nova Scotia asked the Southern Baptist Convention for help in church planting and spreading the gospel of Jesus to the lost and un-churched people of the island. For the last three years Chapin Baptist has sent teams to Cape Breton, the smaller of two islands that make up Nova Scotia.

The mission trip to Nova Scotia this year included two teams, participating in two separate events: Day Camp (VBS) in Inverness and Day Camp in Port Hood. Both towns are located on the northeastern coast of Cape Breton Island. This is our third year to conduct VBS in Port Hood and our second time in Inverness. In 2010, our team also conducted a VBS in Dingwall, a small village on the northern coastal tip of Cape Breton. • Port Hood has been very open to our group and the

VBS sessions we have conducted there. Several of the children from previous years’ efforts were back and excited we were in town. It was rewarding to see the spiritual growth of these children. UPDATE: Port Hood now has its own retired pastor who leads a small dedicated group of believers in bible studies twice a month.

• Inverness was once viewed as a difficult place to conduct day camps (VBS). Last year our group conducted a day camp and was successful in teaching 11 children. This year most of those were back and brought others with them. All in all, we had a total of 21 children; an amazing result. UPDATE: the outreach minister reported last week that Inverness had their first bible study last week with 28 attending the event. Although some of those present were from other nearby churches, 20 were from the Inverness area. Praise God!

• Dingwall – we have learned that this fishing village is now having Bible studies once a month.

Much work is left to do, but God’s spirit is working in this northern island of Nova Scotia.

Moldova Mission TripThe Moldova Mission trip is scheduled for September 24 -

October 2. They will be traveling to a children’s cancer clinic, Baptist nursing center and village. They are looking for some

special items to take with them: knitted caps, women’s scarves, gently used children’s winter coats, backpacks and kitchen linens. You can also make a monetary donation by noting

Moldova Mission on your tithing envelope. If you have any questions or want more information, please contact Wynelle

Middlebrooks (345-0834).
