When my brother Fish turned 13,

we moved to the deepest part of the inland

because of the hurricane and, of course, the fact that he caused it.

On his birthday, my brother Rocket blacked out the whole town.

Now it’s my turn, my thirteenth,

But it’s not going to be a happy one.

There will be no pink and yellow cake with perfect sugar

roses.

No family gathered around.

That’s how I ended up stowaway on the pink Heartland Bible Supply bus along with my brothers Fish and Sampson

not to mention both the preacher’s kids, Will JR and Bobbi.
