Kindergarten Orientation Day
Thank you to everyone for making the Kinder Orientation
Day such a success! It was beautiful to see so many parents supporting their little ones with the transition to big
school next year. We were so excited to see the
young boys and girls making friends, playing together and
getting used to the school routines.
2020 is going to be great!

Principal’s Report Bushfire Update
Thanks to staff and students for their ongoing flexibility as we attempt to manage the issue of students being outside with the air quality at the moment being so unpredictable. We are often needing to get students inside at short notice as conditions change so quickly. Whilst we appreciate that this can be frustrating the health and safety of our students and staff is our top priority. Whilst the situation is improving we will continue to monitor and follow our current processes.
The poor air quality has resulted in our ES1/S1 Excursion to Evans Head which was scheduled for this Tuesday being cancelled. Staff are organising an alternate activity for students before the end of term and any payments made will be transferred to the new excursion. Details regarding this event will be communicated as soon as they are finalised. Our Solid Mob activity Day for Stage 2 and 3 students was also postponed last Wednesday and this has been rescheduled for next Wednesday 27th November.
Once again, thanks to everyone for their flexibility around changing dates and routines during this very challenging time.
High Expectations
A reminder to all families that Lismore Public School sets high expectations for students around behaviour. As we move into the end of the year students become tired and can become less tolerant of those around them. The current smoke in the air is also resulting in many of them not sleeping well. Whilst staff are aware of these factors students are still expec ted to exhibit our values of rights, Respect and Responsibility and consequences will result should students choose not to do this. Physical aggression and non-compliance will not be tolerated. We are seeking support from all families by asking them to remind their children about this. There are several exciting opportunities coming up between now and the end of the year for students who can continue to make positive behaviour choices at school.
Attendance
Attendance at school is compulsory for students in NSW when they reach 6 years of age. Regular school attendance has significant positive impact on students achieving desired outcomes. Students should only be absent from school if they are unwell or are on leave for other reasons approved by the principal. Should your child be absent from school it is a legal requirement that you contact the school and provide a reason. The Department of Education has systems in place to follow up and investigate unexplained absences which can result in prosecution and substantial fines. Your support in this matter is appreciated.
Student Progress Reports
Staff are currently in the process of writing Semester 2 student progress reports. We are anticipating that these will be sen t home with students on Friday 13th December. Please keep an eye out for your child’s report on this day. Should this date need to change for any reason families will be notified.
End of Year Activities
As we move into the last 4 weeks of school there will be several additional activities for students. Details of these will be communicated via the newsletter and social media. We are asking that all families be prompt with returning payment and permission notes should this be required to participate. Teachers and office staff are working hard to keep to time frames and ensure all students get to engage in these activities and your support with this is appreciated. If you are unsure about any activities, dates etc please do not hesitate to contact the school.
Have a wonderful week and remember - Rights, Respect, Responsibility!

Bush Tucker Garden
John Paden has been working hard with students from
Stage 2 to establish a bush tucker garden at the school
entrance. The plants were selected carefully and students
have learnt about garden design and environmental factors
influencing their selection and maintenance of the garden.
Well done to all involved. It will be exciting to observe the
growth.
Public speaking
Congratulations Sienna Gadsby who represented Lismore
Public School at the Rivers Public Speaking Competition on
Friday 8th November. We were very proud of how she
confidently strode on the stage at the Lismore City Hall and
delivered her speech to a large crowd. What an amazing
accomplishment!
A group of stage 2 and 3 students from Lismore Public
School went along to watch the performances. We were
very impressed with the high standard of public speaking
and speech writing skills on display. I must also commend
our group of students who listened attentively and showed
great maturity throughout the whole performance.
Well done.
