Ways to Prevent Gum Disease
Ferber Dental Group
Regular brushing, flossing, and other easy-to-use forms of home dental care protect against more than plaque. Poor dental hygiene can lead to gum diseases such as gingivitis. To keep your mouth clean and healthy, simply practice good dental habits.
The road to excellent dental hygiene begins in the morning. After breakfast, set aside a couple of minutes to give your teeth a thorough brushing. Target the sides and backs of your teeth, and scrub your tongue before rinsing and spitting. Repeat the process before bed every evening.

The toothbrush is your primary line of defense, but there are a couple of other things you can do to help prevent gum disease. Whenever possible, floss once a day; curve the floss around each tooth in a U-shape, carefully bring it under the gum line, and move the floss up and down to scrape off plaque. If you don't have time to brush at work, tuck a small bottle of antiseptic mouthwash in a desk drawer so you can gargle after lunch.
Finally, keep regular dental appointments for checkups and teeth cleanings.
