In 1928, Norbert G. Berghoff founded the Wayne Home Equipment Company located in Fort Wayne, Indiana. The Berghoff family was also known for owning and operating the famous Berghoff Brewery in Fort Wayne.
Wayne Home Equipment manufactured oil burners for use in home furnaces, water and space heaters, boilers, and industrial ovens. Wayne became quite successful in the oil burner business, but faced the challenge that oil burners were seasonal in nature. Fall and winter months became the high production periods for oil burners, creating the need for a complementary product that would increase Wayne’s business in the spring and summer months. Manufacturing water pumps became the solution to the balance out this seasonality.
In the 1940s, Wayne entered the water pump industry by acquiring the Zepher Pump Company, located in Decatur, Illinois. Wayne moved the Zepher facility to Fort Wayne, with its oil burner division to reduce manufacturing and transportation costs. In 1978, the Berghoff family made the decision to sell their home equipment company to the Scott Fetzer corporation. The Wayne Home Equipment Company remained in Fort Wayne, until August of 1991, when it moved to its current location in Harrison, Ohio.

WHAT IS A SUMP PUMP? A sump pump is an automatic pump used to remove ground water from a sump pit. The most common application is for basement drainage to prevent residential flooding. WAYNE offers a complete line of primary sump pumps, emergency back-up systems, and accessories.
WHAT IS THE DIAMETER OF YOUR SUMP PIT? If your sump basin is between 11" and 14” wide, you may use a pump with iSwitch™ Technology, mechanical float, or diaphragm switch. Larger sump basins (14” or wider) accommodate either mechanical, diaphragm or tethered float switches.
IS AN ELECTRICAL OUTLET NEAR THE PUMP? All pedestal and submersible sump pumps have a three-pronged, grounded plug and a 120 Volt, 60 Hz, single phase motor with overload protection. You need a three-wire, GFCI grounded receptacle within four feet above the floor near your sump. Do not use an extension cord.
HOW MUCH HORSEPOWER (HP) DO YOU NEED? In general, the more horsepower, the better. Pump performance depends on how high and how fast you want to pump the water.
WHAT TYPE OF SUMP SYSTEM DO YOU NEED?
This system combines the performance of a primary 120 V submersible sump pump with the protection of a 12 V battery back-up sump pump into one complete system.INSTALLATION HIGHLIGHTS: Place the new unit on a solid, level foundation in the drained sump pit. Remove any silt or debris from the sump pit and surrounding area.
Thread check valve into pump body. The pump has a 1½” NPT discharge. If the existing piping is smaller, use an adapter.
Connect rigid pipe to rubber boot on check valve. Tighten hose clamps. Plug in power and fill the pit with water.
TOOLS NEEDED: PVC cement, screwdriver, pipe wrench, adjustable wrench, hacksaw, and pipe clamps.
Powered by a sealed-lead acid battery, these 12 V pumps protect your basement against flooding during power outages or primary pump failure. When used with a primary pump, the back-up sump pump completes your sump pump system, for maximum protection.INSTALLATION HIGHLIGHTS: Turn power to main pump off. Add a check valve between the back-up pump and the primary pump.
Attach control box to the side of battery box. Plug the float switch, pump and charger into the control box.
Unplug your main pump and fill the pit with water. With your back-up pump pumping successfully, plug your primary pump in.
TOOLS NEEDED: PVC cement, screwdriver, pipe wrench, adjustable wrench, hacksaw, and pipe clamps.
Primary Sump Pumps are automatic pumps used to remove ground water from sump pits. They are powered by household electricity. There are two types of Primary Pumps: Submersible and Pedestal.INSTALLATION HIGHLIGHTS: If replacing an existing pump, remove the old pump carefully. Place the new unit on a solid, level foundation in the drained, clean sump pit. Connect the check valve to the discharge pipe and tighten the hose clamps.
Plug in power and fill the pit with water. If you have installed a submersible pump it will start automatically at the preset level. Finally, place the discharge pipe so it carries water several feet away from the foundation.
TOOLS NEEDED: PVC cement, screwdriver, pipe wrench, adjustable wrench, hacksaw, and pipe clamps.

PRIMARY SUMP PUMPS
Protect your basement from water...with water! Added protection during power failure or primary pump failure. Powered by municipal water pressure, there’s no need for electricity or batteries!INSTALLATION HIGHLIGHTS: Confirm your municipal water supply is a minimum of 40 PSI. Turn off power to main pump and unplug. A check valve must be installed between the primary pump and the tee or wye fitting.
Confirm a 2” clearance from pump to the base of the sump pit. Run a supply line with a ball valve.
Assemble float rod and attach to automatic valve. Connect hose from water powered back-up pump to vacuum breaker.
Fill the sump pit with water and adjust float rod for on/off positions. Plug the primary sump pump in.
TOOLS NEEDED: Screwdriver, pipe wrench, adjustable wrench, hacksaw, and check valve.

WHAT IS A UTILITY PUMP? These portable pumps range in use from everyday applications around your home to occasional use. Some typical applications include removing standing water off basement floors or construction sites, draining aquariums and water beds, emptying basement window wells, and boosting water pressure to wash a car.
WHY USE A UTILITY PUMP? Utility pumps can be a submersible or non-submersible design, and make water moving tasks around the home or farm easier. Electric utility pumps are perfect for everyday household use. Gasoline-powered pumps are designed for more portable farm and commercial uses.
HOW CAN A UTILITY PUMP WORK FOR YOU? Electric utility pumps empty clogged sinks, drain flooded basements, bail boats, boost water pressure, and more. Gasoline-powered utility pumps work well for irrigation, construction, fire fighting and many other applications.
HOW MUCH HORSEPOWER (HP) DO YOU NEED? In general, the more horsepower, the better. Pump performance depends on how high and how fast you want to pump the water.

APPLICATION HIGHLIGHTS: Place the pump close to the liquid being pumped. Attach suction hose and fitting tightly. Attach discharge hose. Suction lines must be a rigid pipe or reinforced hose. (See accessories section).Add a check valve to the suction line to maintain the self priming capability. Use a suction strainer if you are pumping abrasive material. Keep all pipe and hose lines as short and straight as possible.Fill the engine crankcase with the recommended grade of oil. Fill the engine fuel tank with the recommended grade of gasoline. Add water to the priming port on the pump, until it’s approximately 3 inches from the top.Install the priming plug and start engine.

WHAT IS A SEWAGE PUMP? Sewage pumps are automatic pumps used when water being pumped contains solids up to 2” in diameter. Pumping waste from a bathroom to a sewer or septic line is a common application.
HOW DO YOU PLAN TO USE THE PUMP? If you are planning to pump household sewage to a septic system or sewage line, you’ll need a sewage pump. Sewage pumps can also be used for pumping effluent, grey-water and groundwater.
WHERE DO YOU NEED TO USE THE PUMP? Sewage ejector pumps are designed to accommodate single-family homes, multiple-family homes and small commercial applications.
HOW MUCH HORSEPOWER (HP) DO YOU NEED? Generally, the amount of horsepower needed depends on the discharge rate you require from the sewage pump system. Check the pump performance charts on the next few pages.

HOW DO I INSTALL MY NEW SEWAGE PUMP?INSTALLATION HIGHLIGHTS: Thread the discharge pipe into the discharge connection. Attach the check valve at a 45° angle with the valve pivot on top.
Drill a 1/16” vent hole in the discharge pipe approximately 1” to 2” above the pump discharge to prevent air locking in the initial start-up, which will result in loss of prime.
Install a gate valve, after the check valve. Install a union between the pump and the check valve. It is important to keep the impeller submerged. Set the length of the tether switch to turn the pump off with 4“ of fluid still in the sewage basin. Connect the appropriate power once all connections are complete.
TOOLS NEEDED: Drill, screwdriver, pipe wrench, adjustable wrench, hacksaw, knife, and pipe clamps.

WHAT IS A WELL PUMP? Well pumps are used to deliver water from an underground water source to your home. We offer three types of well pumps: shallow well jet pumps, convertible well jet pumps, and deep well submersible pumps. Shallow well jet and convertible well jet pumps are NOT submersible and are usually placed outside the well in a well housing. Deep well submersible pumps are submerged inside your well.
HOW DEEP IS YOUR WELL? Shallow well jet pumps can pump water from 0’ to 25’ deep. Convertible well jet pumps pump water from 0’ to 90’ deep. A convertible well jet pump can operate between 0’ to 25’ with a shallow jet well nozzle or between 25’ to 90’ deep with an ejector assembly. Deep well submersible pumps attach to the bottom of the drop pipe and can operate in wells from 20’ up to 300’ deep.
WHAT IS THE DIAMETER OF YOUR WELL CASING? The diameter of your well casing determines what type of well pump you need. If you do not have a well casing, you have a Shallow Well. Some well casings are 2” and require special accessories with a convertible jet well pump. If your well casing is 4” or more in diameter, you can use either a jet well pump or deep well submersible pump, depending on the depth of your well.

HOW MUCH HORSEPOWER (HP) DO YOU NEED? If you’re replacing a well pump, and your water needs haven‘t changed, select a pump with the same horsepower and voltage. You may need more horsepower if you’ve added a household member or a major appliance since installing your current pump. Larger pumps may also require larger pressure tanks to prevent rapid cycling.
WHAT IS THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN A 2-WIRE AND 3-WIRE PUMP? Deepwell submersible pumps are classified by the number of wires connected to the pump’s motor. 2-Wire (plus ground) pumps do not require the use of a control box. For 3-wire pumps (plus ground), the start capacitor is located away from pump above ground, and therefore requires the use of a control box. WAYNE has three control box models available. NOTE: Make sure the Control Box is compatible with your pump.
INSTALLATION HIGHLIGHTS: Bolt the unit to a level place on the floor or onto the mounting bracket on your tank. Connect all piping to the well. A shallow well jet pump will have one pipe running between the pump and the water supply. This pipe ends with a foot valve in the well and will keep water in the pipe once the system has been primed.After the well pipes are attached to the pump, connect the pipe between the pump discharge and the tank.Connect the appropriate power to the jet pump once all piping connections are complete. Follow the instruction manual guidelines to prime the pump.
TOOLS & ACCESSORIES NEEDED: Pressure gauge, foot valve, screwdriver, pipe wrench, adjustable wrench, wire cutters, wire strippers, hacksaw, knife, and pipe clamps.

INSTALLATION HIGHLIGHTS: Connect the appropriate wiring to the pump using a splice kit. Attach the pump to the discharge pipe. Attach a safety rope to pump and begin lowering into the well. Connect additional pipe as needed while lowering the unit into the well casing until the pump is positioned 10 to 20 feet below the water level. Add a well cap to support the pipe and prevent well contamination. Lastly, connect the wiring from the pump to the pressure switch and control panel.
TOOLS NEEDED: Hacksaw, screwdriver, pliers, hammer, (2) pipe wrenches, adjustable wrench, wire cutters, wire strippers, propane torch, plastic tape, knife, cord/rope/fishing line, small weight, tripod, pipe clamps, block and tackle for pulling and lowering heavier pump and piping into ground.

HOW CAN A LAWN PUMP HELP? Lawn pumps are effective because they operate more than one sprinkler head at a time, and also boost total system pressure.
WHAT TYPE OF LAWN PUMP DO I NEED? The type of lawn pump you need depends on the number of sprinklers you will run, and the length and size of pipe used in your systems.

APPLICATION HIGHLIGHTS: Protect pump from the elements by installing in a basement, garage, tool shed or pump house. Install the pump so the center line of the pump is as close as possible to the water level. Keep installation area clear to provide access for service and maintenance.Protect the pump against flooding and excess moisture. Make sure the pump has adequate ventilation. The surrounding temperature should not exceed 100˚F (38˚C) or nuisance tripping of the motor may occur.

WHAT IS A POOL PUMP? Pool pumps are used to circulate water as part of a swimming pool water filtration system.
HOW MUCH HORSEPOWER (HP) DO I NEED? The necessary HP for your pool pump depends on the size of your pool. When in doubt about the size of your replacement pump, match HP with the previous model.
HOW DO I INSTALL MY NEW POOL PUMP? Pool pumps should be placed on a solid, level surface as close to a pool as possible, while complying with NEC and local codes. When installing a pool pump, locate the pump in a dry, well ventilated area away from direct sunlight. Water should never come in contact with the pump motor.
HOW DO I DETERMINE THE GALLON SIZE OF MY POOL?
HOW DO I INSTALL MY NEW POOL PUMP?INSTALLATION HIGHLIGHTS: Pool pumps are self-priming. Mount pump below water level for easy priming. If the pump must be located above the filled water level, keep the vertical distance to a minimum. Keep the piping as straight and short as possible. Slope horizontal runs upward to the pump to prevent trapping air.Use independent piping supports to alleviate strain on the pump. Install valves and unions in the pump suction and return lines to facilitate servicing. Add a check valve in the suction pipe for in-ground pumps at or below the water level and keep it fully open during operation. Plug into power source once all connections are complete.TOOLS NEEDED: Screwdriver, pipe wrench, adjustable wrench, hacksaw, knife and pipe clamps

PRECHARGED WATER SYSTEM TANKSEnamel coated steel tanks provide easy accessibility for installation. Heavy duty bladder - FDA approved material is capable of expanding 4 times its normal size.
It eliminates water-logging, corrosion, and rust as water never contacts the air in the tank. Precharged tanks deliver draw down equal to conventional tanks twice their size. Bottom discharge combats taste and odor, and allows universal replacement with 90% of market.
