We believe that the best results are achieved whenpeople work together in an open and honest way.

Working together is at the heart of how we operate –and that’s just one of the reasons why we’re aworker co-operative.

project + ReportsWar on Want has been fighting poverty, inequality and injusticein developing countries for 60 years. Our brief was to refreshthe look and feel of War on Want’s thorough and well-researched reports, adhering to and developing their strongidentity, and reflecting the organisation’s commitment toactivism worldwide. We devised a striking, hard-hitting designwith strong typography and using a textured hessian motifthroughout to break up the dense black and echo thedistressed finish of their logo.

project + Magazine refresh and fundraising bookletSightsavers is an international charity working to eliminateavoidable blindness in the developing world. We were asked todevelop more of a lively ‘magazine’ look and feel for SightsaversNews, their bi-annual communication aimed at keeping donorsinformed, engaged and inspired. Bearing in mind their recentrebrand, we achieved this by improving the masthead, developing distinct looks for the different sections of themagazine, using the colour palette more effectively and using a flexible grid to offer greater variety across the sections.

To accompany the winter edition of the news, we were also asked todesign a fundraising insert, whichshows the many ways supporters canget involved and raise money. Theconcept of ‘it all adds up’ was basedon the idea of how the small thingssupporters do add up to so much morefor Sightsaver’s beneficiaries.

project + ‘from conflict to co-operation’ seriesCo-operatives UK is the national trade body that campaignsfor co-operation and works to promote, develop and unite co-operative enterprises.

From conflict to co-operation is a series of easily accessibleguides that provide tools, tips and techniques for peopleworking in community enterprises, showing how goodgovernance can help avoid many of the conflicts which canarise when a group of people work together.

Using illustrations by Angela Martin to explain many of the issuestogether with internally produced illustrations to depict historicaland philosophical quotes, we helped create a resource which isboth entertaining and helpful not just to community enterprisesbut to any group working together.

project + WebsiteHCT Group is the leading transport social enterprise in the UK.Their old site was completely out-of-date and pre-dated boththe expansion of the organisation (20% year on year), and itsrebranding in 2009.

Our task for this site was to balance the business needs of thegroup with the needs of its constituent community operations. As a social enterprise, it was important that each of thecomponent community transport operations were independent, both technically and structurally, and therefore were able tokeep ownership and control of their own areas of the site.

wave was set up in 1987 as a design co-operative to provide a professional creative service to the not-for-profit sector. This was a conscious choice for us and today we are still proud to only work with organisations such as charities, public sectororganisations, co-operatives and social enterprises who arecommitted to positive change and who share our beliefs, ourconcerns and our passions.

As a co-operative, wave is controlled by the people that work in it –there are no owners or shareholders. We operate a flat, non-hierarchical management structure. Furthermore, being a co-op also defines the way we operate on a daily basis, working asa team, learning from and supporting each other and developingour personal skills through practical experience.

Co-operatives are based on the values of self-help, self-responsibility, democracy, equality, equity and solidarity. In thetradition of their founders, co-operative members believe in theethical values of honesty, openness, social responsibility and caring for others.
