Off to the Opera! On Monday 20th August, Year 11 and 10 drama students
visited the Glasshouse for a workshop with the Oz Opera
Company, who were in Port Macquarie for 3
performances of Don Giovani.
Year 10 student Dylan Thomas (centre of photo) reports
that the Year 10 and Year 11 Drama students who went
‘behind closed doors’ of the production, were able to see
how they prepare for each show and gain information on
the life of a performer. Other students included Naomi
Williams, Hannah Stallabrass, Nigel Malcolm, Ned
Parker, Tom Last, Jaylee Ismay, Jaclyn Thomas, Izzy
Emblow. The workshop team included the Don Giovani
conductor and actors from the production.
Champions of Futsal! Futsal competitions are a popular sport for many
students at Wauchope High School. Many of the skills
cross over with soccer, so it gives students a different
angle in the way they use their skills .
The under 13s and under 14s girls team were rewarded
for their skills level, as competition winners, when they
were presented with medals for efforts in the 2012
competition.
They will now play in Ballina and Queensalnd in the next
level of the competition.
The teams include; Kitiara Ostler, Sheridan Ratko,
Georgia Williams, Olivia Burn, Samantha Mead
Front: Skye Auld, Georgia Malcolm, Larissa Ward,
Zoe Blair, Abigail Watson, Samantha Alfred Wood,

Wauchope High School U15’s Girl’s
Rugby team off to State Final
(continued from page one)
The Wauchope High School U15’s Girl’s rugby team will
be playing in the final of the CHS State Knock Out compe-
tition against Wagga High School at Forshaw Rugby Park
Sylvania Waters on Wednesday August 29 at 9am.
The girls have been training at least weekly since February.
They have worked incredibly hard to make it to the state final.
Only two of the girls have rugby experience so making it this
far is a wonderful achievement.
The girls are mid north coast 7’s Champions after competing
in two tournaments in Coffs Harbour run by the Australian
Rugby Union. Their run through the state knock out competi-
tion has included wins against Westport High School 56-10,
Macksville High School 29-12 and Casino High School 29-22.
The team is captained by Zoe Blair (Yr 8) and contains stu-
dents from Yr 7-10. The girls have learnt that the most im-
portant thing about rugby is to have fun, about the value of
team work and that success comes before work only in the
dictionary.
The team is well supported by our manager Linsey Roberts
and ball boys Jacob McGrath and Bailey Farr. Mrs Gough has
played a behind the scenes role.
Rugby 7’s for ladies and men will be an Olympic sport at the
Rio 2016 Olympics. There is a big push from the Australian
Rugby Union to promote 7’s rugby and Wallabies coach Rob-
bie Deans ran a training session for the girls and boys of
Wauchope High School earlier this year. There is no reason
why we won’t see some of our Wauchope girls running
around at the 2020 Olympics for the Australian rugby 7’s
team.
Go well girls, have fun and bring the state trophy back to
Wauchope High!

Wauchope High School Renovations (continued)
Mr Stoner said the multi-million dollar project included the addition of a new two-storey block, a new Technology and Applied Studies unit, kitchens and staff facilities deliver-ing significant improvements to the school.
“State of the art facilities like these can only reinforce Wauchope High School’s reputa-tion for delivering quality educational outcomes,” Mr Stoner said.
“Last year, the school had outstanding Higher School Certificate and School Certificate results, and a significant improvement in the National Literacy and Numeracy (NAPLAN) results of Year 9 Aboriginal students.
“The new and refurbished areas will support the students and teacher's drive for excel-lence generally and in specific subjects. I understand there is particular anticipation about how the Year 12 Major Projects in IT Timber will emerge from other new facili-ties and equipment.
“I congratulate all of those involved in the planning and construction of the project, which has ensured Wauchope High students will be working in a first-class learning environment for many years to come.”
The state-funded project cost $7.565 million, and comprised: - demolition of Block B; - a new two-storey block (Block M), which is the new Technology and Applied
Studies building, comprising a woodwork room, metalwork room, two kitch-ens, an extensive outdoor learning area, seven classrooms, a seminar room and staff room;
- refurbishing Block G with three Special Education classrooms, a Performing Arts workshop with a classroom and warm-up room, and a seminar room;
- refurbishing the first floor senior learning area in Block E, including 3 classrooms and a seminar room;
- a new lift, covered walkways with wheelchair access to all first floor classrooms; - refurbished staff facilities and
- a new staff car park.

WHS Open Touch A strong campaign in the development of Touch
at Wauchope High School over many years has
resulted in some very fit and talented athletes.
Ready to face another challenging touch event,
these students have developed team skills that
form a tight unit against their opponents. Most of
these students will incorporate their sporting skills
in their future careers and lives.

The outdoors always provides an excellent classroom as Year 11 Biology students find out as they study the life in a rock
platform ecosystem through transects and quadrat analysis.
Below, on the same trip, Year 9 marine study students show their skills in fishing which will provide fodder for stories later
on about the time they caught the big one!
