with cear ifrmati aut the prducti ad supp f ur driig water.
The Watermeter 2012 is the third editi f this reprt. Ever ear we tr t further ree ad cmpete the
ifrmati prvided.
The reprt starts ut with a wh des what where, uder what statute, ad withi what partership. A

water supp ad wastewater treatmet. Each ear a residets ad a ca gvermets i the PIDPA
distriuti area ad i the prvice f Atwerp are ivited t preset a prject prpsa. I 2011, 16
vauae prjects were supprted i that wa.
The estimated ert f the tta sectr is arud 236,000 eurs. VMW speds sight mre tha haf f

The quait f the driig water is frequet checed i accrdace with statutr requiremets 4. The

which the water is tested fr ver 60 parameters. Ever ear the draw up a mitrig schedue which has
t e apprved the VMM. These checs are perfrmed at the custmers tap. The resuts f the checs are
set ear t the VMM. The water cmpaies as pass the resuts f their peratia mitrig, i.e. the
measuremet resuts f sampes tae frm the mais water sstem at pump statis, water twers, etc. The
VMM aases this data ad cmpies reprts the driig water quait at the tap ad the quait fthe water suppied t the custmer.
Quality at the tap
I 2011 a tta f 9,612 mitrig checs ad 1,525 audit checs were carried ut. As i previus ears,
the checs reveaed that as i 2011, the quait f the water suppied at the tap i Faders was f gd
quait. The assessmet f the quait fcuses particuar heath-reevat parameters.
I 2011, a tta f 170 stadard exceedaces were ted acrss Faders. Mst f these were reated t
ead, E. Ci, eterccci, ice ad itrite. The cfrmit rate fr a heath-reevat parameters exceeds
99%. The water cmpaies are required t ivestigate stadard exceedaces ad t determie whetherthe cause is attriutae t them r t the custmer. I the majrit f cases the cause is fud t ie i the
custmers idr water sstem. I additi, the quait deviati is fte f a ver temprar ature ad

- The driig water cmpet is the pamet fr the prducti ad supp f the mais water. This
cmpet cmprises a aua xed fee (suscripti me) ad a variae amut (depedig
actua water csumpti). Ever water cmpa is ega iged t supp sectra15 m3 f
water free f charge ever ear per residet (0 per m3 f water csumed). The rates fr driig
water prducti ad supp var frm e water cmpa t ather. Maximum prices are set
the Federa Miister fr the Ecm the asis f price icrease requests sumitted the water
cmpaies.
- The puricati cmpets:
- The muicipa ctriuti (GSb) ad/r pamet (GSV) is used t ace the muicipa puricatiigati (remva ad cecti f used water). The GSb is cacuated fr famiies the asis
f a rate per m3 f water csumed. Private water extractrs, wh use the muicipa puricati
ifrastructure, are usua charged a GSV. The rate used fr the GSb ad GSV fr famiies ca var
frm e muicipait t ather6. It is hwever imited t a maximum f 1.4 times the amut f
the bGb (see ew). Fr usiesses there are varius pssiiities fr settig the rate, depedig
the prvisis aid dw i the ctract etwee the muicipait ad the water cmpa7.
- The bGb (supra-muicipa ctriuti) is used fr fudig the supra-muicipa puricati
igatis (puricati f wastewater). The bGb is as cacuated fr famiies the asis f a rate
per m3 f water csumed. The water cmpaies set the rate fr the bGb uder the supervisi f
the Ecmic Supervisr. Fr usiesses the supra-muicipa ctriuti is ased the umer f

Rates and price for production and supply of mains water for households
Tales 14 and 15 and Figure 16 give an verview per water cmpany f the calculated price per m3 and the ttal
price, th excluding VAT, f the drining water cmpnent fr an average family ased n the rates applicalen 1 January 2012.
The drining water price is n average 1.67 eurs per m3 and varies frm 1.29 eurs (braant Water) t 1.98 eurs
(VIVAQUA Steenerzeel).
The share f the xed payment in the drining water price als varies greatly frm ne water cmpany t anther,
namely frm 6% (GW kne-Heist) t 60% (braant Water).

118 eurs which represets a icrease f 29%. The ast ve ears, hwever, we see a reverse tred. betwee
2008 ad 2012 the xed remuerati icreased average 10%, the variae remuerati 15%.
It is as cear that husehds with 1 residet cear pa mre per m3 f mais water csumed tha
husehds with severa residets. This is due t the fact that the xed pamet des t var accrdig t
the umer f residets per husehd.
