WATER ROCKET

Simply it’s an upside down fizzy drinks

bottle, which has a nose cone and some fins.

Principle

The Newton’s Second law., P=mvFor Variable Mass,F=v

LAUNCHER

The main work of the launcher is topressurize the empty space above the water.

FUN FACTS

The Guinness world record for largest height is 2723 feet( 830 m) by University of Cape Town. The pressure inside the bottle can reach up to 100psi - 125psi.Water expelles out of the bottle instantly.

HOW TO CREATE A BASIC WATER ROCKET 1. A two - Litre fizzy drink bottle is used to make main body.2. Some weight to make the nose.3. Cardboard or plastic to make fins.4. Strong sticky tape.

Page 9: Water rocket presentation

STABILITY

Center of mass of the water rocket must be ahead of the center of pressure.CM must be nearer to the nose and CP to the bottom.

Page 10: Water rocket presentation

1. 2. Greater the mass of the fluid expelled, greater will be the up thrust. 3. More the pressure inside the bottle, more will be the up thrust.

TIPS TO INCREASE THE HEIGHT

AIR DRAG

Methods to reduce Air Drag:The fins should be thin and tapered.Swept back fins create less drag than straight fins.Rounded corners on a fin create less drag than sharp corners.Every surface should be smooth.

Air drag is the friction force acting between the moving rocket and the air.It increases with increasing velocity.

NOSE CONE AND FINS

Reduces Air Drag. Increases stability.
