AN INTERNATIONAL CONFERENCE AND EXHIBITION ON WATER AND WASTEWATER MANAGEMENT

Energy and Water are essen al in urban development. Energy and water are inextricably linked to sa sfy basic human needs, produce food for a rapidly growing popula on and achieve economic growth. And yet, today, 1.3 billion people worldwide lack of access to electricity and some 800 million people get their water from unimproved sources.

Efficient produc on and use of energy and water, manage trade-offs, op mise resources by reuse, recycling and genera ng energy from waste are essen al to save on increasingly scarce resources and costs, for both produc on and waste management. An added driver is to strengthen corporate social and environmental responsibility through sustainable produc on.

The hos ng of the Sustainable Energy & Water Resources Management Week in Myanmar featuring two flagship conferences - Global Water Conference 2016 (GWC 2016) and the 4th Myanmar Green Energy Summit 2016 (MGES 2016) is to address the per nent issues in both water and energy sectors of the country.

GWC 2016 OVERVIEW“SUSTAINABLE WATER: THE KEYSTONE FOR ECONOMY,

ENVIRONMENT, HEALTH AND SECURITY”In Southeast Asia, water resources are under strain due to rapid urbaniza on and industrializa on. The situa on is made worse by water-related disasters, climate change and lack of governance in the region.

Water resource issues include inadequate drinking-water supply and sanita on facili es, water pollu on, floods, the silta on of river systems, and the management of rivers and large dams present special management challenges. Barriers to addressing these issues include poverty, illiteracy, rapid popula on growth, and ineffec ve ins tu ons and policies for developing, distribu ng, pricing, and conserving water resources. The complex pa erns of these issues are shaped by differences in wealth, environment, and poli cal systems.

The Global Water Conference 2016 supported by Ministry of Livestock, Fisheries and Rural Development, Myanmar (MLFRD) and Southeast Asian Water U li es Network (SEAWUN) with the theme of “Sustainable Water: The Keystone for Economy, Environment, Health and Security” is designed to facilitate the implementa on of the water management policies and encouraging collabora on between those working on water resources management and water technologies, and those working on environmental, public health, economic growth and other issues. This is also an unparalleled pla orm to get updated on the market direc on and explore investment opportuni es in the water industry in ASEAN.

THE OBJECTIVES OF GLOBAL WATER CONFERENCE 2016To raise awareness on the importance of water resource management that contributes to a more sustainable water security in developing countries.

To iden fy challenges and opportuni es in improving water efficiency under the prevailing socio-economic, environmental, cultural, and poli cal condi ons in the developing countries.

To facilitate an open scien fic discussion pla orm to share knowledge and experiences between researchers, execu ves, decision and policy makers, private sector, and other stakeholders, in improving water efficiency in various water supply and consuming sectors.

To iden fy scien fic and technological research needs and priori es in the field of water efficiency to aid the process of policy formula on and decision making.

To iden fy key trends and issues confron ng the sustainable accessibility of clean water.

To provide networking and build business opportuni es while engaging in discussion on per nent issues with industry experts.

To build a network between individuals, ins tutes, civil society/NGOs and private sector in the field of water efficiency.
