The major Environmental Problem of Bangladesh is :

WATER POLLUTION

Consequences of water pollution lead to :

Waterborne diseases

Death of Aquatic animals

Disruption in natural

food chain

Destruction of Ecosystem

Some existing solutions :

Preventative Measures :

• Preventing disposal of Chemicals, Medicines and

Industrial wastes fall directly into the river.

• Encouraging the use of organic fertilizers and

moderate use of pesticides.

Common water purification practices :

• Industrial and domestic waste water treatment.

Alternate water source utilization:

• Rain water harvesting.

Our proposed solution is….

FLOATING TREATMENT WETLANDS

It is a new technology containing a floating

porous platform on which plants are grown.

Plant root are hanged inside the water column.

Working mechanism :

• This wetland can remove BOD, COD, nitrogen,

phosphorous, some pathogenic micro-organism and other

waste water pollutants.

Floating treatment wetlands

• Can be implemented on large scale.

• Suitable for Bangladeshi weather condition.

• Use local, readily available and cheap materials.

•Require a little maintenance.

Cost to built a floating mat:

•For a 8’ * 3’ mat constructed with PVC pipe and

fishing net, it costs about 1500 taka only.

•Also people can use local materials for the flotation

of the mat.
