WaMSS Scada – Produces Graphs and Reports for your Water Management

The WaMSS Scada is a simple to use tool in the logging phase, planning phase and implementation. It enables you to continually monitor and trend your performance and automatically compiles reports featuring your key performance parameters.

� ��Water�BalanceN&Z’s WaMSS system produces Water Balance Diagrams based on the IWA model. Metered flows are sent from our battery powered mag meters or from existing mechanical meters fitted with our “Smart” loggers. .

The flow measurements are automatically processed by the Water Balance model. The model also processes your estimates of “un-billed, un-metered use”, “leakage on transmission and distribution mains” etc., as a percentage of the System Input or as absolute values.

These diagrams are produced automatically for the time window that you choose and are automatically e-mailed.

WaMSS loggers accept pulses from flow meters, pressure sensors and 4-20mA inputs from any sensors, and logs the data. These data files are sent automatically by GPRS to the web-based WaMSS Scada. So you can easily incorporate flow meters into an AMR system or log parameters such as level, pressure, pH, conductivity, etc. into a simple-to-use, plug and play Scada.

A number of models are available to suit different applications. And being locally designed and manufactured, we provide on-the-spot support.

WaMSS ‘Smart’ Loggers Made in South Africa

WaMSS Loggers are widely used for flow or level logging or as a part of an AMR system.

� ��Flow�Logging�(Leak Detection)

Flow logging is a very powerful tool which reveals flow characteristics, giving valuable information on the probability of existing leaks, pipe bursts, system design, operations and pumping strategy.

Flow is logged by “Smart” battery powered flow meters with built-in GPRS telemetry; alternatively we fit a “smart” logger to an existing meter or temporary portable meter. The data is sent by GPRS to the WaMSS Scada which automatically emails flow trends. The flow trends reveal flow variations and alert you to unusual operations.

� ��Flow�Meter�Testing�and�Pump�Testing

Call N&Z out for flow meter testing and pump testing. We use a portable Fuji Ultrasonic flow meter for clear liquids and a Greyline Doppler meter for effluent and slurries.

For a quick and inexpensive spot Flow Rate test we monitor the output of your existing flow meter or pump.

A more thorough test is performed over a prolonged period using Flow Totalisation.

��Reservoir�level�measurement�and�management�is�an�essential�part�of�reliable�water�delivery�to�users

“Having water in the reservoir is like having money in the bank” - But equally an over flowing reservoir is a waste of money!

The most reliable way to measure water level is a pressure sensor connected to a pressure tapping on the bottom of the tank, or submerged in the water.

The pressure sensor connects to the Isoil battery powered magnetic flow meter or WaMSlog Smart Logger. The level measurement is sent by GPRS to the WaMSS Scada. The Scada trends the reservoir level, as well as water In-flow and Out-flow.

The reservoirs on the Scada display are grouped by region, or by those which are in alarm, e.g. too full (overflowing) or too empty (too low).

��Isoil�is�an�Italian�specialist�magnetic�flow�meter�manufacturer�focusing�on�the�water�industry.�

Their most successful model is the battery-powered full bore flow meter suitable for line sizes up to 1,200mm! It has major accuracy and reliability advantages over mechanical meters and is used widely in water distribution and management applications. The optional battery powered GPRS module sends flow measurements directly to our Scada system giving a complete AMR solution (Automatic Meter Reading).The Isoil insertion meter costs less than the full bore model and can be installed while the pipe line is under pressure with no interruption to the flow. It is available in battery-power GPRS version, and has a typical repeatability of ±0.5%.Isoil also supply pressure sensors and a Cathodic Potential Module which are fully compatible with their battery powered converter. A further unique advantage is a low flow calibration which is independent of the standard calibration.Isoil’s unique coil technology makes their sensor extremely sensitive with the result that Isoil is now widely used for both loop powered and battery powered applications.

��How�it�works�–�Non-contact,�Non-invasiveUltrasonic flow meters do not come into contact with the fluid at all. They are easy to install, commission and maintain. Installation requires no plant downtime. Ideal for both portable and fixed applications, line size has little influence on price.

With no obstruction to flow, no pressure drop and no maintenance, the life-cycle cost of ownership is extremely low.

• Portable flow meters are widely used for spot measurements or for checking the accuracy of existing flow meters.

• Fixed meters are easy to install as they do not require any plant downtime or changes to existing piping.

��Used�for�Clear�LiquidsFuji is a pioneer in portable ultrasonic flow metering. Their many years of experience gives you a meter which works in extreme applications. And the built-in verification function which Fuji pioneered gives you full confidence in your measurement accuracy. Normal operating accuracies are between ±0.5% to ±1% of readings. Accuracies of up to ±0.23% can be achieved where the pipe is sound and the dimensions are precisely known. The meter is suitable for pipes from 13 to 6,000mm.

��For�Liquids�with�air�bubbles�or�suspended�solids�or�slurriesGreyline’s non-intrusive flow meters measure flow from outside the pipe with a strap-on sensor. They are ideal for aerated liquids, waste water, slurries and effluent.

Suitable for pipes from 25mm to 4,500mm in diameter and flow velocities from 0.08 to 12.2m/sec, accuracy is typically ±2%.

For best operation the liquid should have solids or bubbles with a minimum size of 100 microns and minimum solids concentration of 75ppm.

��How�it�works• Level is measured by an ultrasonic sensor which can be mounted at the bottom of the channel, externally

above the channel, or by a pressure sensor in the channel.

• Flow velocity is measured by a submerged Doppler sensor which is ideal for most surface water, waste water and effluent applications, or alternatively by a non-contract laser sensor which is ideal for waste water and effluent.

• These measurements, combined with the stored data of the geometry of the channel give volumetric flow rate.

��Measure�flow�in�part-filled�pipes�and�open�channels�without�weirs�or�flumesWeirs and flumes frequently erode or silt up making readings misleading. And the Manning formula model is strongly affected by changes in the channel conditions and down-stream obstructions and can lead to dramatic over-reading.

Area velocity flow meters are the ideal solution for measuring flow in partially filled pipes and open channels.

Water Quality Monitors

ATI has been a leading manufacturer of reliable water quality monitors for more than two decades. There is an extensive installed base of ATI monitors at Water Boards and municipalities in South Africa, supplied by N&Z and with strong support from the ATI factory.

ATI is also a pioneer in remote water quality monitoring using “Smart” sensors in a multi-parameter system which also had the benefit of minimum water consumption.

��Potable�Water�ApplicationsATI monitors have a proven track record in South Africa for pH, conductivity, turbidity, chlorine and ammonia measurement.

Measure Residual Chlorine Without ReagentsA major advantageof ATI’s chlorine monitor is that usually you do not require pre-sample treatment. This means you get dependable measurements without expensive chemicals or time-consuming maintenance. Sensors are available for Free Chlorine and Chloramine (combined chlorine).

AmmoniaATI has made a breakthrough in on-line moitoring with their Model Q46 which is easier to operate and less expensive that standard systems but with a higher degree of reliability – and at a lower cost.

The Q46 measures Total Ammonia and Monochloramine concentrations; the Free Ammonia concentration is derived from these values.

The simple chemical system uses inexpensive reagents and the fast response time (90% in 3 minutes) makes the system suitable for online control.

��Waste�Water�ApplicationsDissolved Oxygen - Auto-clean OptionATI’s patented AutoClean Air Wash system is very effective in wastewater and effluent where rapid sensor fouling is a major problem. This system blasts the surface of the sensing membrane, giving many months of maintenance-free operation.

Calibration is quick and accurate using ambient air and barometric pressure as references.

Numerous systems have been operating in South Africa since 1997.

��Automatic�Water�Quality�Monitoring�at�Remote�SitesThe MetriNet system is ideal for measuring water quality at remote sites and transmitting the data to our WaMSS Scada or other software. MetriNet measures up to 8 parameters; each parameter is measured by its own node which can be calibrated in your laboratory and simply plug into the MetriNet on site. The system has minimal service and water requirements. The Scada provides a complete monitoring and alarming facility and automatic data transfer to other software systems.

��Pump�Station�Level�Controller�Package��(with Ultrasonic Level Sensor and backup Pressure Level Sensor)

The stand-alone Greyline PSL controls your pump station level intelligently. It has 6 built-in relays which control your pumps and valves.

The Greyline system includes a non-contact ultrasonic level sensor and a back-up pressure level sensor. If the controller loses signal from the ultrasonic sensor, for example due to foam on the water surface, the back-up pressure sensor automatically kicks in.

The Greyline PSL brings new reliability to pump station level control in one integrated package.

Together with N&Z’s Smart loggers and WaMSS Scada the PSL provides a robust “local control and remote supervision” system.

��Sludge�Level�MeasurementSludge Level Detection for clarifiers and thickeners.Measuring sludge blankets in clarifiers or thickeners is challenging, but the EcoSmart has proved to be very reliable in South African applications.

The Smart sensor is mounted under water and an ultrasonic beam gives continuous sludge level measurements. The optional self-cleaning wiper removes bubbles, slime and other material accumulations from the sensor to provide reliable operation in hostile environments.
