HASAN DROWNED IN THE LEGEND Hasan drowned tells about a love story and its bitter ending. It's the story of Ovali

Hasan and Obali Emine. Hasan and Emine love each other. But it's difficult for them to come together as their lifestyles are different. Nevertheless, Hasan asks Emine's father to give Emine as a bride. In order for Emine to get married to Hasan, there is a condition to be met acording to the rules of Oba. Hasan must bring a sack of salt on his back from the village to Oba without getting any rest. Hasan accepts this. He takes one sack of salt from the village and sets off with Emine. It's easy for him at first. But with sun and exhaustion, his sweatdrops and the salt begin to burn his back. In order not to break the custom, Emine doesn't let him rest and she doesn't help him either. With all his strength, Hasan tries to carry the sack full of salt. But after some time, he loses his strength, and collapses with the salt sack. Emine takes the sack and continues walking herself. Hasan shouts after Emine and Emine says "I couldn't come, you come after me". Nobody sees Hasan after that day. Emine finds one piece of his shirt near a valley. Hasan's voice tingles in Emine's ears all the time. He cries out for Emine. Emine's health gets worse day by day. Finally, she hangs herself to a tree near the valley with Hasan's shirt. This story is about the cruelty of social traditions. Every society performs laws according to their lifestyles and worldview no matter how cruel these laws are. This story tells us how love can't leave traditions behind. The second theme is concerned with people's lifestyles. For example, as we see in this story, Oba is very difficult for the villager. People live according to the rules and conditions described in their society. Hasan's lifestyle makes it impossible for him to carry that sack to Oba under the sun. But it's not difficult for Emine because she already lives under those conditions. In this story, we also see Emine's cruelty as well as the society's. She didn't understand how it was difficult for Hasan to carry the sack. Because it's something she can do and she expects Hasan to do the same.
