Decided Action Plan from Previous Year

•The Committee decided to hold a competition;

• In the competition people were asked to formulate ideas about how to battle water loss even if in a small scale.

The terms of the competition:

The participants were asked to put forward ideas and present them to ICA club members.

The ICA members would choose the most realistic and innovative project and implicate that project with its creators.

Procedure for the competition

•Posters were put up on the walls of Enka Schools therefore the Enka Schools students were informed upon the terms of participation.

•The Chairs of the Water Deficits committee of the upcoming conference presented the students with a general idea of how the competition was going to be held.

•Thus started the one month in which the projects were meant to be formed and presented to the ICA club members.

Page 4: Water Deficits Committee

•The presented projects were analyzed by the ICA club members and the supervising teachers in order to determine the best one.

Berktuğ from Enka Adapazarı prepared a presentation that was meant to be presented in his school.

ODTÜ High school students went to a conference about water deficits. After they participated in the conference, due to the inspiration and success of it, they invited the speakers to their school to make a speech.

Three guests from the ‘Gündem 21 Gönüllüler Foundation’ visited Enka Schools and spoke with four ICA club members who were participants in the Water Deficits committee about how it was possible to warn people about the growing problem of daily water losses before it was too late. The guests said that they would make presentations in some of the State Schools in the area of Sarıyer.

Page 7: Water Deficits Committee

They also spoke about their plans to open a new branch of the ICA club in some of the schools they were cooperating with. They also proposed the idea of the four members of the Enka ICA club to prepare presentations to be presented in other schools.

OUTCOME:ACHİEVEMENTS AND FAİLURES

•At the end of one month unfortunately two projects were presented to the ICA club.•The submitted projects were assessed but they were found to be unrealistic since they required a large budget• A strong link of communication between the committee members•Advanced technology that could only be found within universities or high-tech research facilities.

Page 9: Water Deficits Committee

The competition: It was not successful because the project was

not expressed as detailed as was needed. The projects submitted were not realistic. Inadequate amount of announcements. There were not enough participants involved

because the participating students were only from Enka Schools which limited the variety.

The project was not endearing enough thus it did not attract the attention of the students.

Page 10: Water Deficits Committee

The presentation prepared by Berktuğ was not presented because it was prepared for general information.

The conference that the ODTÜ students attended was a great achievement because it awakened inspiration, innovative thoughts and the will to do more about the growing problem of water deficits. Following the conference the students invited the speakers to make speeches to the whole High School which was effective in raising awareness on a larger scale.

Page 11: Water Deficits Committee

The time limit was too little in order to make the presentations as stated in the Procedure, Clause 4 before the first ICA conference.

Ways in which we can improve Putting more details on to the poster

about what was expected from the projects.

The posters should have been more instructive.

Some interesting facts could have been put on the posters to attract attention and more announcements could have been made to inform the students about the competition.

Page 13: Water Deficits Committee

A stronger link between team members could have helped the enthusiasm of the competition. This could be achieved by a telephone or email chain which would serve the purpose of the members keeping in touch and informing each other about the improvements.

Page 14: Water Deficits Committee

The competition was limited to Enka Schools students but more schools could have been involved with the competition therefore there would be more projects submitted therefore a more productive competition would have been achieved.

For motivation the prize for the winning project could have been clarified.

Page 15: Water Deficits Committee

The type of the competition could be changed to a wider variety like caricatures and poems.

In the poster there was a need for a clearer budget because some of the submitted projects were too technologically advanced

Page 16: Water Deficits Committee

Stronger regard could have been given to the time limit for the designated presentations that were to be made by the four Enka ICA club members but the presentations can be added to the new action plan.

The ICA forum made by Enka School students could be used more efficiently and productively in order to both communicate and inform.
