Management tips:

1. You may want to make this a silent activity so students don't shareanswers with each other.

2. You can have the kids work alone or with a classmate.

3. Don't be afraid to hide the facts in tough places. Kids think it'smore fun when they have to search around a little.

4. Have a plan for students who finish early. You may want to have anassignment for them to complete when they're done or you mayhave them help other students find fact cards.

Purpose : At the end of this Scavenger hunt students will be able to learnthe information about Water Cycle and its Science with its vocabulary.

1. Print the Scavenger Hunt cards on card stock or brightly -coloredpaper and cut them apart along the black lines.

2. Make copies of the Scavenger Hunt questions worksheet. Eachstudent needs a copy.

3. Place the Scavenger Hunt cards around your classroom wherestudents will be able to find them. You can put them on chairs, on thecomputer keyboard, on the back of your classroom door, on the sidesof student desks, on the chalkboard or wherever you like.

4. Students have to search the room and find all of the sentence cards toanswer the questions. You can differentiate by having students workalone or with a classmate.

The water cycle is a continuouscycle where water evaporates, condenses and precipitates andagain evaporates.

Water Cycle includes variousprocesses such as,

Transpiration

Evaporation

Condensation

Precipitation

Accumulation

Water is an integral part of lifeon this planet. Means theexistence of water is essential forlife on Earth.

97% of the water on Earth issalt water found in the oceans.

3% of Earth's water is freshwater.

Solar energy drives evaporationof water from the ocean. The evaporated water changesfrom a liquid to water vapor, agaseous form.

The amount of water lost by aplant depends on its size alongwith the surrounding lightintensity, temperature, humidity, wind speed and soil water supply.

Transpiration is the evaporationof water from plants into the air.

Transpiration also cools plantsand enables the flow of minerals& nutrients from the roots.

Condensation: Evaporated wateris warmed and rises into the airwhere eventually it cools andcondenses to form clouds. Here water vapors are associatedwith particles present in air andconvert into cloud.

Accumulation is the collectionof precipitation into rivers, lakesand oceans.

Precipitation: When cloudsbecome very heavy withcondensed water, the water isreleased in the form of rain, hail orsnow.

Some of the human actions canimpact on the water cycle such as

The word water usually refers towater in its liquid state. The solidstate of water is known as ice whilethe gaseous state of water is knownas steam or water vapor.

Inflitration : In this process, therain water soaks into the ground, through the rock and underlyingrock layers.

Infiltration: The water flows fromground surface into the ground.Once infiltrated, the water becomessoil moisture or groundwater.

Ground water flow: Ground waterslowly moves through the spaces andcracks between the soil particles andgo to the lower elevations. Thismovement of the water undergroundis called groundwater flow.

Runoff: It is the movement of thewater to the oceans, mainly in theform of the rivers, lakes andstreams.

Adding and extracting the heatmakes the water cycle work. If theheat is added to ice, it melts. If theheat is added to water, itevaporates.

Importance of the water cycle:Humans use water for drinking, respiration, perspiration andelimination of wastes are all part ofthis cycle.
