What is Wastewater Treatment?

Preliminary treatment – physical treatment, removes large objects
Primary treatment – physical treatment, removes 60% TSS and 30% BOD (conventional pollutants)
Secondary treatment – biological treatment and physical, removes 95%+ of TSS and BOD, can remove nutrients (N&P)
Tertiary treatment – biological, chemical, physical processes to remove N & P
Disinfection – chemical treatment required to kill disease causing organisms
