Wastewater Treatment Process
Screening
- Raw water that enters the plant is screened to prevent the entry of foreign objects such as leaves, etc or other large floatables
WATER ENTERS SCREENING
-
Wastewater Treatment Process
- Water then either passes an area where anaerobic bacteria is added or acids/ bases (Ex. Muriatic Acid or NaOH) for neutralisation.

Wastewater Treatment Process
Deoxygenation
-Oxygen is bubbled at the bottom of the tank or at the side to mix and aerate the water thoroughly.
-- This process activates the aerobic bacteria which is the so-called activated slude
-- Water gets back and slimy
-
Wastewater Treatment Process
1st Clarifier /
Settling Tank
-- The activated
sludge helps eat the
or breakdown
organic materials
present in the water.
-- This is also called
flocculation process,
where small clusters
of suspended solids
combine until it begins
to sink.
-
Waste Sludge
Few sludges are constantly removed to maintain its effectiveness in purification, and to lessen its ratio with the water.
Part of waste sludge is aerated and re-used again which is called Return Sludge. This is used again for the 2nd Clarifier which is mixed with some fresh activated sludge.
Remaining waste sludge are removed for treatment and ultimate disposal, which are placed in the Holding Tank.
-
Wastewater Treatment Process
2nd Clarifier / Settling Tank
-- Fresh sludge and returned sludge is mixed.
-- Its purpose is the same as the 1st
Clarifier. Froth on the surface of water is observable, and the water is cleaner compared to the first.
-
Wastewater Treatment Process
Chlorination
-- Chlorine is added onto the water for disinfection purposes.
-- Water is classified as Class C, which is not for drinking but only good for livelihood purposes such as fishing or swimming.
-- Water is then released to the Laguna Lake, the largest septic tank in the world.
-
Wastewater Treatment Process
Holding Tank
-- Waste sludge and other contaminants such as heavy metals are contained here.
-- Different process of treatment is applied for the proper disposal of different toxic waste.
