Charging criteria
The annual charge for discharge of trade waste to sewer includes an annual access fee (to cover inspection and administration costs) plus a volume charge (to cover the cost of transport, treatment and disposal of the waste).
As a default, the volume charge is based on the water consumed (as measured at the incoming water meter), less an allowance for each toilet pedestal, multiplied by a discharge factor to take into account the water consumed on the premises (e.g. irrigation, cooling, towers, soups, ice).
If alternative measuring of trade waste volume is available, then a more accurate estimate of trade waste volume can be made.
How many toilet pedestals discharge to council sewer from the property? ____________________
Which main water meter feeds this trade waste activity? ___________________________________
Do you have any alternative direct method of measuring trade waste discharge? Yes /No (e.g., discharge meter, pump hours, sub-meter for water consumption. If yes, please give details below).
___________________________________________________________________________________Is there any irrigated area or pool on your property? Yes /No
If yes, what is the size of the irrigated area/volume of the pool? _____________
Is there any significant domestic consumption of water on the property (e.g. hotel units)? Yes /No
What percentage of the water consumed, as measured at the meter (or alternative measure) is discharged as trade waste? _____% (If unknown, the Environmental Health and Regulatory Services Team will estimate.)
The Environmental Health and Regulatory Services Team will forward any approval /permit issued to both the property owner and business owner.
Food businesses only
Number of fixtures discharging to sewer (e.g. sinks, basins, dishwashers, woks, combi ovens, bain maries, floor wastes, tundish, etc.) ____________ Sink Baskets: Yes /No
Fixtures will be used to estimate required grease trap size (minimum 1000 litres) and/or service frequency. Note that glass washers are preferred to not be connected to the grease trap due to high temperatures that affect the efficacy of the grease trap.
