Dr Adam Read

Adam is Ricardo Energy & Environment’s Global Practice Director for Waste Management & Resource Efficiency. Adam is a respected ‘waste management’ academic holding visiting lectureships at a number of UK Universities, including Research Fellow at the Universities of Brighton and Kingston. He has spoken widely at practical waste management conferences around the world, and published extensively in the academic and practical press. He has spoken at all of the major international conferences including ISWA, the Sardinia Waste Symposium, and the R3 series of events. Adam is also on the Editorial Board of Sustain, a regular contributor to the CIWM Waste Management Journal, is Editorial Advisor to Resource and has had his own monthly column in MRW.

Phil White

Phil is a Chartered Waste Manager in the UK with 20 years' experience in the environment sector, including over 16 years in waste regulation, policy and consultancy. Phil is Business Area Manager for waste treatment technologies and technical and market due diligence, and is an experienced waste sector expert witness. Phil’s recent projects include waste to energy technology fore-sighting; mechanical biological treatment (MBT) performance expert advice; anaerobic digestion (AD) feasibility analysis and investor due diligence; refuse derived fuel (RDF) quality and export; organic waste treatment project monitoring; and market due diligence for overseas market entrants seeking to fund and develop advanced thermal treatment infrastructure in the UK.

Tim Fill

Tim is a waste manager, project manager and civil engineer in the Transaction Advisory business area - with over fifteen years experience in the engineering and environmental sectors. Tim has worked on a range of projects to help clients better understand potential liabilities and revenues generated by modern waste to energy infrastructure. He has advised Australian, British, Canadian, European, Middle Eastern, African and Indian clients on waste management strategies, the procurement of waste services and infrastructure, due diligence and the preparation of Environmental and Social Impact Assessments. He has recently contributed to a PPP feasibility study for the development of a large scale WtE facility in Johannesburg, South Africa, where he focused on the volume and characteristics of the waste feedstock, suitability of WtE technologies, market offtake studies, capital and operational costs and the social impacts associated with the informal sector and the local economy.

Dr Mark Broomfield

Mark is an air quality, odour and health impacts specialist with a BA in chemistry from the University of Cambridge, and a PhD in atmospheric chemistry. He has 24 years’ experience in dealing with environmental and health risk issues associated with waste management infrastructure. Mark is an experienced expert witness on issues including odour and air quality impact assessment; environmental and health effects of waste management; perception of risks to health; and road traffic emissions. Mark was the lead author for the landmark UK Government study “Review of Environmental and Health Effects of Waste Management”. This remains a key influence on UK waste management policy. Mark has completed research for the UK Government and European Commission on topics including waste infrastructure, dioxins and furans, and shale gas development. He is a member of the UK Natural Environment Research Council Peer Review College.
