Recycling in our school It is very welcome by the government since about 15 years. Since that time we recycle in school and at homeIt is very important for us and our pupils.The kids really like it and are very interested in waste separation. In school we recycle paper, organic waste and residual waste in every class.Plastic is outside the building but still at the schoolground.And our kids are not allowed to bring glass – bottles into the school.The government picks up the garbage every Tuesday and every friday and the organic waste every friday.Paper gets picked up every tuesday and plastic every two weeks on thursday.

Also every class of our school goes at least once to the main recycle station in the citySiggerwiesenThen they know what happens with the separated materials.

We also have big containers for the rubbish outside the school building.

We also take care of things like safing water or switching off the lights.

The garbage in the classes gets emptied every day by the cleaning ladies.They collect it from every class and bring it outside to the containers.

Each class has three bins for each recyclable material. A red one for paper, a green one for the organic waste and a grey one for the residual waste.

Recycling in Salzburg

Just in the city of Salzburg in 2011 fell about 84,000 tons of garbage. Of the 84,000 tons of trash were 37 000 residual waste.In comparison: In 1998, the amount of residual waste have been 30,000 tons.

One problem remains the lack of waste separation in Salzburg.

For the city the costs for one ton of waste is 165 euros , thus a total of 6.1 Mill € a year. Since they know that they try to optimise it.

Increasing pollution, careless littering that’s how it was a few years ago. But more and more people realised that it is important to recycle.

Everyone wants a clean city.For this reason, the government builded free recycling stations.

For many people, the waste separation was too laborious in the past so they decided to put everything in one box.

One problem was also that people did not know what happens with the garbage after they seperated it.

Since this is more transparent and understandable nearly everyone separates paper, organic waste, residual waste, plastic and glass.

So we are on a good way but there is still something to do!
