Performance Expectations

At the end of this lesson, you will:

Recognize some of the major landmarks in Washington, DC and be able to match the pictures to the names.

Compare and contrast two of the landmarks by creating a Venn diagram with at least five facts about each landmark and three facts that they have in common.

Demonstrate the mastery of the facts of one of the major landmarks through a poster presentation. The presentation will include at least two pictures and five facts about the landmark.

The Jefferson Memorial

The Jefferson Memorial is dedicated to Thomas Jefferson who was the third president of the United States. He also was one of the authors of the Declaration of Independence. The memorial sits on a body of water known as the Tidal Basin of the Potomac River. You can find more information at:

The Lincoln Memorial

The Lincoln Memorial is dedicated to Abraham Lincoln who was the sixteenth president of the United States. The memorial has a large sculpture of Lincoln seated in a chair. Among the many items around the walls of the memorial are Lincoln’s Gettysburg address, given right here in Pennsylvania, and paintings of various events in Lincoln’s life. Lincoln was assassinated by John Wilkes Booth in Ford Theater in April of 1863. Find out more at:
