4-H Connect Transition
Recently our registration system, 4-H Connect (www.4honline.com) underwent a
transition where the responsibilities of operation transferred from one Texas State
4-H Department to another. Through this transition, the forms of payment saved
under each family’s profile was reset. What this means is that when registering
your child for an event on 4-H Connect, you will have to re-enter your credit or
debit card into the system. If you have any questions, please feel free to contact
Charles at the Extension Office.
Fashion Storyboard
All 4-H members participating in the D-11 Spring Spectacular Fashion Storyboard
Contest must register for the event on 4-H Connect by March 18th. Fashion
Storyboards are due to CEA Tanya McGonagill at the Extension Office by April 1st.
2016 Washington County Fair Queen
If you are a Senior aged 4-H member interested in representing Washington
County 4-H as a Fair Queen Candidate, please let your club manager know during
your monthly 4-H meeting. Each club is allowed to nominate one young lady as a
potential candidate. Because our membership is above 300, our 4-H program is
able to have two Fair Queen Candidates. The only way a 4-H club may have more
than candidate is if no other club has a nominee. CLUB LEVEL NOMINATIONS MUST
BE VOTED ON at the club level. The club manager will notify the Extension Office of
their chosen candidate. If there are more than two candidates who wish to run, a
special meeting of the county council will be held to decide who will represent
Washington County 4-H as a Fair Queen Candidate.
Washington County Fair Meeting Dates

on how to enter your projects through the Showorks system.
Entering Your Fair Project Online
You will need to go the Fair’s website www.washingtoncofair.com use the search window and type the specie name. You will see the link under each heading. Each exhibitor will need to set themselves up with a login, which will include capturing their contact information. If you have any questions, please feel free to contact the

Washington County Fair Meeting Rules
Please be aware that in order to exhibit an animal in the 2016 Washington County
Fair, returning 4-H members must attend at least 5 Community 4-H Club Meetings.
Families have an opportunity to attend another club’s meeting one time during the
year. First time exhibitors must attend at least HALF of their community 4-H club
meetings once they have registered for 4-H in order to be eligible to exhibit an
animal in the fair. This is in addition to attending the minimum number of species
meetings required by the Fair Species Chairman.

Exam tests the hands-on or experiential learning and is the largest component of
the contest. The Identification (ID) Exam will include Veterinary Instruments,

2016-2017 County Council Officer Elections
It is that time of year to begin thinking about County Council Officer Elections. All
interested candidates must meet the following qualifications:
1. Must be at least 14 years old on August 31, 2016.
2. Must have been in 4-H for at least two years.
3. Must have completed a 4-H Recordbook for the 2014-2015 4-H year.
Election Process:
1. All applications are due to the Extension Office by April 26th.
2. Officer Candidate Interviews are scheduled for Thursday, April 28th at 5:30pm.
3. Elections will be held at the May County Council Meeting. All candidates are
encouraged to attend in order to give a short one minute promotional speech
for their candidacy.
Candidates are ranked from highest to lowest based upon the combination of their interview score (150 Points), and the popular vote. The top eight candidates will receive County Council Officer positions, with the top scoring candidate receiving Chairman, the next top scoring candidate will receive 1st Vice Chairman and so on. The officer order will be as follows: Chairman, 1st Vice Chairman, 2nd Vice Chairman, Secretary, Treasurer, Reporter, Parliamentarian, and District Delegate. Please keep in mind that a Council Officer may not hold the same position for more than one year. What Does A County Council Officer Do? The County Council Officers serve as the driving force of many of our county-level programming. They help plan and execute programs such as County Camp, Ag Day, Family Night, Community Service Projects, and more. In addition, they serve as ambassadors for Washington County 4-H within the community. Oftentimes they are called upon to speak to elected officials and organizations about our accomplishments as an organization.
Coke Tabs For Ronald McDonald House
Starting at the January Club Meetings, the County Council will be sponsoring a
community service competition between all of our 4-H Clubs. Start collecting coke
can tabs in milk jugs and bring them to your club meetings, or by the Extension
Office. At the end of May, we will weigh all of the coke can tabs and the club who
donated the most will have pizza delivered to their June or July club meeting,
compliments of the County 4-H Council. These tabs will be donated to the benefit of
the Ronald McDonald House for Charity.
