The Declaration of Independence When in the Course of human events, it becomes necessary for one people to dissolve the political bands which have connected them with another, and to assume among the powers of the earth, the separate and equal station to which the Laws of Nature and of Nature's God entitle them, a decent respect to the opinions of mankind requires that they should declare the causes which impel them to the separation. 5. The Declaration of Independence We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness.--That to secure these rights, Governments are instituted among Men, deriving their just powers from the consent of the governed, -- 6. The Declaration of Independence That whenever any Form of Government becomes destructive of these ends, it is the Right of the People to alter or to abolish it, and to institute new Government, laying its foundation on such principles and organizing its powers in such form, as to them shall seem most likely to effect their Safety and Happiness. Prudence, indeed, will dictate that Governments long established should not be changed for light and transient causes; and accordingly all experience hath shewn, that mankind are more disposed to suffer, while evils are sufferable, than to right themselves by abolishing the forms to which they are accustomed. But when a long train of abuses and usurpations, pursuing invariably the same Object evinces a design to reduce them under absolute Despotism, it is their right, it is their duty, to throw off such Government, and to provide new Guards for their future security. 7. Question Discipleship Training: How do you train as a Disciple? 15. 1 Timothy 4:7 (NIV) Have nothing to do with godless myths and old wives tales; rather, train yourself to be godly. 16. 1 Timothy 4:7 (KJV) exercise thyself rather unto godliness. 17. 1 Timothy 4:7(AMP) Train yourself toward godliness (piety), [keeping yourself spiritually fit]. 18. 1 Timothy 4:7(NASB) discipline yourself for the purpose of godliness 19. Question How do you train as a Disciple? 20. Disciple/Discipline Training as a Disciple means Discipline Training in Spiritual Disciplines 21. Spiritual Disciplines They do not save us and do not make God love us more; rather, they are the means God uses to conform us to Christs image. The Spiritual Disciplines are those personal and interpersonal activities given by God in the Bible as the sufficient means believers in Jesus Christ are to use in the Spirit-filled, gospel-driven pursuit of godliness, that is, closeness to Christ and conformity to Christ. 22. Matthew 26:36 (NIV) Then Jesus went with His disciples to a place called Gethsemane, and He said to them, Sit here while I go over there and pray. 25. Matthew 14:23 (NIV) After He had dismissed them, He went up on a mountainside by Himself to pray. Later that night, He was there alone 26. Question How do you pray? What did Jesus teach us about how to pray? 27. Luke 11:1(NIV) One day Jesus was praying in a certain place. When He finished, one of His disciples said to Him, Lord, teach us to pray, just as John taught his disciples. 28. Luke 11:2-4(NIV) 2 He said to them, When you pray, say: Father, hallowed be Your Name, Your kingdom come. 3 Give us each day our daily bread. 4 Forgive us our sins, for we also forgive everyone who sins against us. And lead us not into temptation. 29. Matthew 6: 9-13(KJV) 9 After this manner therefore pray ye: Our Father which art in heaven, Hallowed be Thy name. 10 Thy kingdom come, Thy will be done in earth, as it is in heaven. 11 Give us this day our daily bread. 12 And forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors. 13 And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil: For Thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, for ever. Amen. 30. Question: Who are we praying to? 31. Who are we praying to? Luke 11:2- He said to them, When you pray, say: Father, hallowed be Your Name, Your kingdom come. Matthew 6:9- After this manner therefore pray ye: Our Father which art in heaven, Hallowed be Thy Name. 32. Father Greek word- patr (pa t r)Father Greek/Aramaic- Abba Father Hebrew Ab Father 33. Mark 14:36 (NIV) 36 Abba, Father, He said, everything is possible for You. Take this cup from Me. Yet not what I will, but what You will. 34. Questions Why did Jesus say, Abba, Father? Dont both words mean the same thing, Father? Answer- Abba is more personal like saying Daddy and Father is showing His Father the respect due Him. 35. Romans 8:15 (NIV) 15 The Spirit you received does not make you slaves, so that you live in fear again; rather, the Spirit you received brought about your adoption to sonship.
