The pope shocks the worldby E. Irving
Pope Benedict chose to resign which has shocked people because the last pope to resign was John XII in 1415. Usually the pope doesn’t resign, he passes away while being the pope. After two weeks a new pope was selected. He is from Argentina and his name is Jorge Mario Bergoglio. His papal name is Francis and the awesome thing about it is that he is the first non-European pope in over 1,300 years.Mr. Woods thinks that some changes will be made
because of the fact that Pope Francis is conservative. He is different in his beliefs about abortion and that he feels differently about the poor and has different beliefs in marriage. He also thinks it is for the best that there is a new pope because of Pope Benedict’s age and that the new pope is younger. Mr. McDonald said there is some enthusiasm about the
new pope and thinks it was a smart decision that Pope Benedict chose to resign because he did not fill up to the task to continue being the pope. The new pope used to work as a chemical technician
before going into seminary. He chose to take a bus to his hotel after his election rather than taking the papal car. Francis told Argentineans to give to the poor instead of spending money to travel to Rome.
Fine Arts Festival by A. Dillon and M. Coughlin
The Cair Paravel Latin School Fine Arts Festival was hosted March 8 at Topeka Bible Church. It lasted from about nine in the morning to one in the afternoon. Schools from all around Kansas traveled to Topeka to participate and be judged in music, drama and visual arts. There were many different options to compete in. Each
school had a band and a choir that sang or played a song in front of the judges. There were also piano and vocal solos. Also, there were many different art options. There was a room that displayed the photographs, drawings, paintings and 3D art that were entered, as well as a timed, on-site drawing competition that students could enter. Our school’s band traveled to Topeka to play their song
Into the Storm. Kelsey Warren said of the performance, “The ending was magnificent!” The band received a two rating, with a one rating being the best. All the students who submitted an entry did extremely
well, scoring either a two or a three. The only two students who received a one were Courtney Cranford for her photography entry and Hannah Dewitt for her on-site drawing.“There was a lot of interesting pictures, and it was
pretty fancy because it had ushers and all that,” said eighth-grader Caleb Linville. “But yeah, it was pretty boring.”

FeaturesMr. Bowker the Musician
by B. PetriWhile Mr.Bowker will
dearly miss all of his students, he has decided to leave us. He and his family are going to be moving to Ireland. He said, “I’ve always
been interested in their culture. When talking to the man in charge of church planning, I found out that their
spiritual state was lacking, and I knew it was what I wanted to do.”He is a very fun teacher who teaches us our Gaelic
word of the day, has us reach out of our comfort zone, and over all makes us better not only as players but as people. He also picks our great chapel songs and plays guitar for us.There’s also many other things he does besides music
like pursuing his love of coffee (he once drank twenty-eight cups in just two hours!) and enjoys spending time with his one-year-old son.He is excited for the move but is also sad and said, “I
will miss my students and my family the most.”Though he didn’t always want to be a teacher, he is
very ambitious, and when he was younger he wanted to be a priest, an astronaut, or a basketball player. When he was in high school, he played basketball for the Eagles and would regularly get triple doubles.Over all Mr. Bowker is very fun, outgoing, wise and
helpful. He will be missed by all of his students, family and friends.
Bird watchingby Kelsey N.
The seventh grade science class is learning about birds. The study of birds in this class is very much focused on the birds you would see in Kansas. The seventh graders went bird watching, and saw many birds.Seventh grader Kelsey Warren climbed a tree and saw
baby mourning doves in the nest. Seventh graders were very enthused about the sight. They then went on to find many more nests. In the bushes near the front of the school, they saw a huge nest around the size of a basketball.Seventh grader Shaiann Wyatt said, “It was nice to
get out of the classroom. It was something fun and different.” Bird watching requires much patience.

Hearts and Minds Alone
by S. WyattI am Alone,I chose this,So why are you sad for me?Sometimes I like to be Alone.
There is more time to oneself when Alone. So shrewd to be Popular!Who would want such a cruel thing!Yes, I like Alone.
Bliss has another name: Alone. So boring to be of the Crowd,Streaming in the same current as a group, in Unity.More unique to swim against the babbling brook, Alone.
Yes, we’re meant to have Company occasionally, but I much prefer Alone,
No, I am not of the extrovert breed,But the introvert me, will stick with the quiet solitude. My friends, me, myself, and I, we all like Alone.
Many things that you can do, AloneThings Together wouldn’t allow,For example: searching your inner self and being in thought,
Are best for doing, Alone.
So when you see me sitting, Alone,Don’t be sad, don’t interrupt,For I am happy talking to myself.Perfectly, pleasurably, ALONE!

Book Review: Beowulfby E. IrvingBeowulf is an old English
myth dealing with a man named Beowulf. He is a fierce man and a tough fighter; he comes to help the Great Dane take down a monster named Grendal. He talks about how he swam an ocean and took down a monster. Later in the story there is a dragon that is attacking villages and burning them, so he goes and kills the
dragon but he dies from the dragon. The story took place during the sixth century, and was
written between 700 and 1000 AD. Some people can have a tough time reading because it is written in old English and it can be very hard to understand. Some parts in the book are gruesome because Beowulf
is almost like a barbarian, and it seems that Beowulf wanted to be the best. I believe the story is great. The setting and the imagery pulls you in and makes you feel as if you are there. The book all around is great because it is like you are watching a barbarian in the making.
But I trust in your unfailing love; and rejoice in your salvation.
Psalm 9:10

1 Timothy 1:15-17
by C. LinvilleIt is a trustworthy
statement, deserving full acceptance, that Christ Jesus came into the world to save sinners, among whom I am foremost of all. Yet for this reason I found mercy, so that in me as the foremost, Jesus Christ might demonstrate
His perfect patience as an example for those who would believe in Him for eternal life. Now to the King eternal, immortal, invisible, the only God, be honor and glory forever and ever. Amen.I Timothy 1:15:17This is a verse that pretty much sums up the Christian
faith. It says that Jesus came to save sinners, which every human is, and that if we accept this and believe that he did this, we would live eternally with him. In The New International Version, it says He came to
save sinners, of whom I am the worst. This is very hard for some people to admit, that they are a horrible sinner and they need to be forgiven. The last part says that God is eternal, immortal,
invisible, and the only God.
James 1:2-3by A. Dillon
Consider it pure joy, my brothers, whenever you face trials of many kinds, because you know that the testing of your faith develops perseverance.James 1:2-3
These verses are talking about what we are to do when faced with trials. According to these verses, we should have pure joy when we are facing problems or difficulty. This does not mean that trials should be the best part of our lives. It just means that when hardships come our way, we need to remember that they are essential for the development of our faith in Christ, which leads to perseverance. By facing hardships with a good attitude, it will be easier to face them in the future.
