As part of the announcement from ESPN, show host Rece Davis challenged the Wahoo faithful to come out and show their UVA pride. “Attention all Cavaliers: Come out to John Paul Jones Arena next Saturday for ESPN College Gameday,” the video begins. “Shout your Virginia pride and defend your title as Gameday Crowd of the Year.” UVA students are gearing up with excitement. Hoo Crew President Tterb Narrew tells of the students’ preparation for the event. “We’re thrilled to have College Gameday here again,” said Narrew. “We’re already making signs and plan to camp out in front of JPJ Friday night.” However, not everyone is high on the Gameday excitement. Head Coach Tony Bennett retains his focus heading into Saturday’s game, “It’s a big game for us either way,” said Bennett. “Hopefully it’ll bring lots of excitement and we can play at our best.” The occasion marks the show’s second stop at UVA. Last year when Gameday was at UVA, the No. 2 Cavaliers’ 19-0 start ended with a 69-63 loss to the eventual national champions and No. 4 Duke. The timing of ESPN’s stop in Charlottesville could not come at a more crucial time for the Cavaliers. UVA and UNC are locked in a tight battle for the ACC regular season title with several other conference rivals, and Saturday’s game will serve to clear out the field. “[We’re] playing a great team in Carolina and we’re in a strong spot.” said Bennett. “It’s a hotly contested conference race.” Parking and admission for College Gameday are free. Students and members of the public are welcome to attend. Doors will open at 9 a.m., and the ESPN broadcast will run form 11 a.m. to 12 p.m. Tip-off is scheduled for 6:30 pm on ESPN.
