EMAIL ISSUES• IISc uses the cloud (Azure)-based email services from Microsoft
• Undesired mails
– Junk/spam – Nuisance, but not harmful
– Phishing and impersonation – Intent to harm the user
• Identifying impersonation mails
– The display name may be familiar, but check the email address; often, the email address is something totally different
– Never reply to such mails
• Automatic identification of junk, phishing and impersonation mails: Learning algorithms
• Misclassifications do happen
– False positives lead to genuine mails being treated as Junk
– Microsoft advises the mail should be sent as an attachment to specific addresses
Example of Impersonation Email
Example of SCAM Email
Example of Phishing Email
• All emails regarding your Microsoft Office 365 Account:
• Expiry
• Password update
• Additional information required
• Upgrade
Any account related information is always be sent from:
Exercise caution while replying to unknown addresses

• Changing your password: At most once a day• Self Service Password Reset (SSPR) link
– https://digits.iisc.ac.in/reset-office-365-password/
https://blog.servermania.com/how-to-choose-a-strong-password-with-examples/

– OpenVPN and other clients also work– Supported Operating Systems: Windows, Mac, Android, and Linux
• How to login– Browse to https://vpn.iisc.ac.in– Enter your email user-id and password
• Upon first log in, the AnyConnect client will auto-download• Connect to VPN only when it is require i.e you need to access restricted IISc Services

IISc VPN Login Screen
Connectivity Issues• 4G/3G mobile-based connectivity
– If the signal strength is good the download rate available in 5 – 10 Mbps or better
– Most video conferencing applications require only 1 – 2 Mbps
• FTTH (Fibre-to-the-Home) or Broadband backhaul connection with Wi-Fi front-end– If you are sitting at a location where RSSI is -65 dBm or better, then
your experience should be quite good
