Warm Up: Analogies

• A comparison between things, typically on the basis of their structure and for the purpose of explanation or clarification

•Using the punctuation mark : means “is to”

For example…

apple: tree

grape: vine

This is said: “Apple is to tree as grape is to vine”

Because the relationship is the same…apples grow on trees and grapes grow on vines.

Another example… storm cloud: rain

Create a sentence that connects this same relationship and think of another pair of words that share that same same relationship.

Ex. Storm cloud: Rain Bees: Honey

Storm cloud is to rain as bees are to honey. Storm clouds make rain, bees make honey.
