• Marco’s parents bought him a new video game for his birthday. The objective of this game is to find the hidden treasure before the pirates. For every treasure chest found Marco receives 10 points. If a pirate finds the treasure before Marco, he receives –15 points. This is what happened on Level #1: Marco found a chest, then the pirates found a chest, and finally Marco found 2 more chests. Write an addition problem to represent the events in this story. What was Marco’s score?
• Marco found a chest: 10 +
• The pirates found a chest:10 + (-15) +
• Marco finds two more chests:10 + (-15) + 10 + 10 =
• Marco’s score is 15 points!
