    Herart,KhongjomParba,toostandsoutinthepageantoforaltraditionsthiscountryhas.ThoughtheBritishdefeatedmanylocalrulerstobegintheirrule,nottoooftendowecomeacrossanestablishedtraditioninacommunitythatrecountsthroughballadsthetalesofheroeswhowentdownfightingforthemotherland.Inasingsongway,KhongjomParbadepictstheheroicbattletheManipurisfoughtagainsttheBritishinaplacecalledKhongjomontheIndiaBurmaRoadin1891.ThesuperiorforceoftheBritisharmyledtothefallofKhongjomwhichbroughttheKingdomofManipurunderBritishhegemony.Manipurlostsomeofitscelebratedheroesinthatwarsay,PaonaBrijabasi,Chenglensana,YaiskulLakpa,NarangbaPoila,ChongtaMiaSingh.

    AwarmemorialinKhongjomandaremembrancedayobservedeveryApril23intheStatekeepalivethememoryofthisimportantpageofManipurihistory.Butmuchbeforethat,itisthetraditionofKhongjomParbathathaskeptitfreshinpublicmemory.IbemniDevi,eventhoughshelostherfatherattheageofthree,stillremembershimsingingpaeanstothosewarheroesbyweavingintothelinestheirpainandsuffering,theirsacrificefortheland,beforeanassembledcrowdinhervillage.ThoughhewasoneofthefirstballadeerstodoKhongjomParba,hewasnotitsfounder.DhobiLeinowas,addstheSangeetNatakAkademiAwardrecipient(2004).
