Hello all - - - I hope this New Year finds each of you doing well and in good health.
January is a time of resolutions, a time to start things that you think are worthy of doing. This New Year, why not resolve to become more active in your Lodge and increase your efforts on behalf of the Lodge and Elkdom? Why not volunteer in one activity more than last year, if each one of you participates in only one activity a year more than last year, we will have a year to remember. Elks make a tremendous difference in the lives of our Members and the people we serve. You can be a part of that difference by sharing the pride that comes with active membership and volunteer service. As Elks, we participate in an organization that supports our youth, we support our armed forces and we have a deep respect for our country and flag.
Why not resolve to bring in at least one new Member before the end of this Lodge year? I know that each one of us has a friend or neighbor that would make a great Elk. Consider asking if they would be interested in what we have, we have a great organization and a solid message. Over the years, the Elks mission has been consistent and the membership has become more inclusive. Today's guidelines for membership stipulate only that the candidate be invited to join, be over the age of 21, be a citizen of the United States, and believe in God.
In the New Year, let's resolve to pay less attention to depressing stories on TV, in magazines and newspapers, and to stop focusing on what we want that we haven't got, instead of appreciating the many blessings we do have. In the New Year, let's look for the good. We may have to search through a mass of negative media, but the good is there, all around us, all we need do is look and we will find it.
Please think of our troops in your prayers. I wish you all well until next month. I will see you down at the lodge.
Fraternally & Sincerely, Warren R Wertman Exalted Ruler
