WOULD LIKE •We use would like or ’d like to say politely what we want, especially when making offers and requests:
•Would you like a biscuit with your coffee?
Verbs that follow would like are in the to-infinitive form:
• Would you like to listen to that again?• I’d like to get a return ticket for tomorrow.
WANT•To wish for a particular thing or plan of action.
•Want is not used in polite requests:•I want to eat some chocolate. •She wants a meeting with you.
•A: Mr. Wilson?•B: Yes, Peter, what is it?•A: I would like to take a holiday next month.•B: Next month? Okay.•A: I would like two weeks off please from February 10th to 24th.•B: We can do that.•A: Thank you very much.•B: You’re welcome.
