38 Bindu Tantra Yoga 'Naked Tantra Kriya Yoga' is a term that might arouse some degree of shock and misunderstanding in a lot of people, but at the heart of it, it's just what it sounds like – it's yoga with no clothes on. The poses aren't any different than what you'd find in a typical yoga class and the instructors generally have the same type of training. The only things missing are yoga pants and yoga tops! Proprietor Tom Colton told InDublin about the classes: "Naked yoga can also be a path to loving your body. It seems like everywhere we look, we get messages that say, 'You're not thin enough or not muscular enough,' or that certain body parts are dirty and should be shameful, When you go to this class and leave your clothes at the door, a lot of that shame gets left behind as well." "The word 'Tantric' is widely misunderstood in the West. Tantra is not just about sex and Sting's stamina. Very basi- cally and broadly, Tantra is a spiritual school of thought involv- ing meditation and ritualistic practices and yoga. A lot of what we receive as yoga is sanitized Tantra. It's really a way of embracing all of existence -- everything is part of the flow of life. You can go into anything and discover your divinity. Tantra Kriya yoga is not a meditative form of yoga, it is a workout form of yoga. It is very good for helping you keep fit and healthy" There are men, women-only and co-ed naked classes, people who attend the classes are of all sexual orientations - orienta- tion is not a consideration for doing a naked tantra kriya yoga class. The classes are held naked and contain: Meditation, Pranayama (breathing exercises), asanas and kriyas. For more details, call 086 023 4182 or visit www.bindutantraireland.com

Difficult as I’m sure it is to believe, we’re not perfect here at InDublin. We all have our vices, we all have our unful-filled hopes and dreams and things that we’ll ‘get around to someday. Fortunately for us, this time of year is allabout fresh starts and changes for the better, so with optimism in our hearts, we’re taking a deep cleansing breathand looking at how we can better ourselves in 2011, and who can help us do it.

Looking Good and Feeling GoodCome the first of January, all our good behaviour to fit into party dresses and slim-fit shirts is going to have been washed away on a tide of turkey sand-wiches and selection boxes and ‘ah-sure-one-more-but-only-if-you’ll-have-one-yourself’. The fancy hairdo you got for the office party and beyond has beendecimated by Santa hats and too many naps against the window of the Nitelink, and face or legs, some part of you is in desperate need of a shave. It mightseem like a long time away, but you’ve only a few short months before you’re trying to look good in a swimming costume. And besides, it would be nice notto get out of breath next time the lift breaks down in work, wouldn’t it?

EducogymIf you’re resolving to slim down and shape up in 2011, it may be time to consider joining agym. Even though you may be pinching the pennies right now, a gym membership can bea great investment if you get great results. But most gyms operate like an equipmentrental business in a warehouse environment, and lack the essential elements for success-ful weight loss. This leads to most members getting poor or no results, and up to 90 per-cent stop attending regularly after a short period. Educogym is different, and here’s why:

Traditional low-calorie diets and aerobic exercise cause you to lose muscle, which lowersyour metabolic rate (the rate at which you burn food and body fat for energy). Once youstop dieting and exercising, you quickly gain all the fat you just lost, plus more. Most peo-ple then panic and start the vicious cycle again, not realising that every time they do this, they are getting further away from their goal. A pound of muscle burns approximately 50–100 calories a day, and the majority of calories you lose are burned by your muscles.Think of your muscles as a furnace that keeps burning food and body fat for energy re-gardless of what you are doing, even if you are sitting in front of the TV or asleep.

Clearly, then, increasing muscle tissue should be the goal of any successful weight-lossprogramme. So, what is the best way to do this? A doctoral study examined this questionand came to a ground-breaking conclusion: the most important factor was the trainee’smental attitude. Other important factors were weight training, no resting between exer-cises, low-glycemic foods and some food supplements. The research highlighted the factthat the more focused the trainees’ mental attitude was, the heavier the weight they couldlift. The level of intensity of effort was directly related to the increase in muscle tissue. Theresults of 4 hours of weight training over a 12-day period (20 minutes per day) were, onaverage, a gain of 3lbs of muscle and a loss of 7.5lbs of fat. This change of nearly 1lb aday would be enough to transform the average person’s body. The Educogym system isbased on this research and is completely focused on real results.
