HARD HAT CHAT More than 10,000 people enjoyed the sounds of the City of Wanneroo Presents: Lisa Mitchell and Josh Pyke concert at Wanneroo Showgrounds. As the gates opened at 4pm, residents and visitors streamed into the Showgrounds, setting out picnics and grabbing the best spots with families sending the kids off to enjoy some of the great activities including an interactive Scitech exhibition, mini golf, video games, airbrush tattoos or to take a picture in the fun photo booth. The City of Wanneroo was proud to support Perth’s local music scene with three local acts taking the stage before the headliners. Room for Reason were first to capture the audience’s attention, blending original songs with melodies of popular tunes to get the crowd started. Riley Pearce and his supporting band wowed the crowd playing his biggest show to date, featuring tracks from his latest EP, We Are Fools. The delicate, indie-roots tunes eased the crowd for the sounds to follow. MC Famous Sharron entertained the crowd between sets, ensuring everyone was lively, interactive and hosted a variety of competitions. Rainy Day Women proved why they won a WAM award the night before, showcasing true pop rock talent effortlessly with infectious, upbeat, summer-vibe songs that ended the set with an explosion of claps and cheers from keen concert-goers. It was time for the headliners as Josh Pyke entered the stage framed by a beautiful sunset to a sound of screaming fans. He set the scene for a night to remember, playing a variety of new tunes and old favourites in the captivating story-telling technique Pyke is famous for. Lisa Mitchell won the crowd over as her beautiful, whimsical, yet powerful voice, carried to all ends of the Showgrounds. Playing favourites such as Spiritus, Oh! Hark! and a variety of tracks from her latest release, Bless this Mess, Mitchell and her sweet indie pop enthralled the audience.
