2. Mr. A. J. WebermanMr. Weberman, Walter R. Dornberger is the subject of one main Bureau file (105-11072) which consists of 48 pages and you are being furnished 28. Contained in this file are 19 pages of material which originated with the Department of the Air Force (17 pages) and the Central Intelligence Agency(CIA) (two pages) which have been referred to those respective Agencies for direct response to you. In addition, our documents contain information furnished by the Department of the Air Force, and CIA which will be furnished to you by the Bureau as soon as their determination is made as to the releasability of their information. You are also being furnished a two page reference in which Mr . Dornberger is captioned as the subject. This reference is being furnished to you in its entirety. The enclosed 30 pages are stapled into documents as the originals appear in our files . You have the right to appeal to the Associate Attorney General any denial of FBI information contained herein, or you may wait until we have completed the processing of your FOIA request, which will occur when CIA and the Department of the Air Force advises this Bureau as to the releasability of their information contained in our documents regarding Mr . Dornberger. Walter R . Dornberger, 84, German general during Wo rld Wa r II who supervised the cons truction of the firs t guided mi ssile, developed by Wernher von Bra un; in Baden- Wiirtt emberg, West Germany. Aft er the perfection of the V-2 rocket at Peenemiinde, Germany, in 1942, Dornberger directed the bombardment of --London with V-2s late in the war. Dornberger la ter remarked that the Nazis had lost because his colleagues "were mo re interested in the possibilities of space travel than victo ry in war." After spending two years in a Britis h prison camp, Da rnberger became a U.S. ci tizen and eventually vice president of Bell Aerosystems Co. i11 Buffalo, N.Y.
