Happy December! There is a lot happening this month. We will be giving the 2nd quarter test so make sure you look at your child’s midterm test results to see what they need to practice. DIBELS testing will take place the week of December 3rd -7th. Continue having your child practice naming letter sounds, breaking words apart by sounds, and reading CVC words. Along with testing, we will be having many holiday activities at school. Continue to check your child’s homework folder for holiday activity updates and reminders. Kindergarten pajama day will be Thursday, December 20th. We will be asking for cookies

and hot chocolate donations. We are excited for the busy month ahead!

First grade will be having a holiday celebration on Thursday, December 20th. Students are allowed to wear school appropriate pajamas this day, but no slippers. Please make sure to check your child’s homework folder for notes that will be sent home with items needed for all of our holiday activities as well as stocking stuffers. We appreciate anything that you are able to donate. Also, since the weather is cooling down, please write your child’s name inside their jacket in case it is misplaced. Many students are still having trouble tying their shoes. Please practice this at home because it becomes a safety issue. It is also important

for students to learn their phone number as well as parents’ names. This is something that can be practiced at home as well and is beneficial if they are ever in an emergency. Wishing everyone a happy holiday season and a relaxing and safe winter break!! Don’t forget to READ and we will see you January 7th!

We are continuing with our Parent Involvement Homework. Please make sure that you are completing the fluency passage with your child every night. This is important because it will help to improve your child’s DIBELS score. The DIBELS reading test will be the week of December 3-7.

Problem of the Month math homework will be handed out on Monday, December 3 and it is due on Friday, December 7. Thank you for devoting time to support your child’s education.

Lastly, we have lots of fun and festive activities coming up this month. Please make sure your child is coming to school on time, with all of their homework completed, and he/she is on their best behavior so that they can participate in the fun festivities.

The 2nd grade team wishes you and your family a happy and safe holiday season!

Hello 3rd Grade Families! As we begin the month of December, please continue to have your

child on time and present each school day. Their daily attendance is very important. It’s a busy

time of year and we don’t want any students to miss out! Also, we would like to thank you for

encouraging your child to stay focused and on task during classroom instruction. The more your

child stays focused, asks questions, and participates in class, the more they are learning! As the

weather changes, please make sure your student is bringing a jacket to school each day. Next, we have completed our

multiplication introduction and have started testing multiplication math facts along with addition and subtraction math

facts once a week. These are timed tests we use to build up our math fact fluency! Your child should be practicing

their math facts at home each night, along with reading for at least 20 minutes! Finally, we want to say “Thank You!”

again, for the continued donations of tissues, classroom snacks, hand sanitizer, and paper. These donations are always

appreciated!!!

Hello 4th Grade Parents! First of all, we would like to thank all of the parents who volunteered

their time to help with our Fall Festival and/or the 4th Grade Rock Shop! We are so incredibly

grateful! THANK YOU! Next, as we begin the month of December and move towards Winter

Break, please encourage your child to stay focused and on task during classroom instruction. Also,

please remember to have your child read at least 20 minutes each night, especially over Winter

Break! 20 minutes of reading a day, over 5 years, is 600 hours of reading time - the equivalent of

24 extra weeks of school! Finally, we want to remind you that our Grand Canyon Trip takes place

in May and monthly payments for the cost of the trip can be made in the front office. An RSVP letter for the Grand

Canyon Trip will be sent home the first week of December!

Thank you for your support, Parents! Happy Holidays!

Happy December! 5th grade will be taking a field trip to the University of Arizona on December

5 to watch a Women’s Basketball game. Please make sure you send a lunch for your child or

let us know to provide one from the cafeteria. The Science Fair “turn in date” is quickly

approaching! Your child should have a plan in place and should be working on their project.

Please continue to complete the Scholastic News reader with your child. These are due every

Thursday. As the weather is cooling down, please send your child to school with appropriate

clothing such as jackets, pants, and closed toed shoes. Thank you for your continued support!

Sixth Grade News Wow, we can't believe it's December already! Thank you to all of the parents that helped

out at the Fall Festival, we really appreciated your help. December is going to be a busy

month with a visit from the UA Tree Ring Lab and Spelling Bee. Sixth graders should be

well into their engineering projects this month, as the due date in January is quickly

approaching and your students should be building their prototypes over winter break.

Please encourage your students to continue working on their projects and completing

homework in a timely manner, as this has presented some difficulty for our students this

quarter. Agendas should be checked nightly and Monday folders should be checked weekly. We can use donations

of tissue and hand sanitizer as the cold season is upon us. As always, please don't hesitate to contact us if you have

any questions/concerns.

Hello friends! Welcome back to the mooost wonderfullll tiiiimmmeeee.... of the yeeeaarr!! It's December!

Unbelievable! Snow is falling, all the leaves on the trees have drifted off... crazy.

Okay not that crazy, it literally happens every year. ANYWAY. Hi! December is a pretty busy month. We

need your help. "But John," you are asking right now, "how can I help? I am only one person. I don't have

time." To which I respond "You like to eat, don't you? You can help by eating."

Join us for dinner at the CHIPOTLE on Wetmore in the Home Depot/Petsmart shopping center on

TUESDAY 12/4 from 4 to 8pm. You buy a meal (or 3, we won't judge!) and the PTO gets 33% of the proceeds. Pretty cool. You get a

burrito, we get cash. It’s a win/win!

Then, on the very next day, we'll have our December PTO meeting. We've got some stuff to talk about there, all of it good and

exciting. There's a 50/50 chance I'll bring pizza for you and your kid to snack on. The first time I did it it went great, the last time

no one showed up. FREE PIZZA. C'mon. The meeting always move quickly, childcare and translation is always provided, and we always

get stuff done. If one parent.. ONE! parent. Calls or texts me to let me know they'll be there, I'll bring pizzas. It's that easy. The

PTO needs your help and input, I need your help. You need pizza. Let's trade.

Finally, the last thing we have going on in December is our Kids Korner Santa Shop. That shop will open on Tuesday the 11th and

run until Tuesday the 18th. We'll have the shop open for a Family Night on Friday the 14th from 5-7pm! Bring your kids, bring the

cousins, bring your neighbors. If pets were allowed I'd say bring them too! (note: PETS ARE NOT ALLOWED.) And that will be the

last we'll see of everyone until the new year.

From all of us in the PTO to all of your families, Happy Holidays! John Mussulman, PTO president Ph.: 520-668-6922 Email: [email protected]
