Our Legacy

Wallem Maritime Services, Inc. (WMSI) has been in the business of crewing for more than four decades. Our history coincides with our industry presence as a reputable provider of global maritime professionals.

WMSI started supplying Filipino professionals overseas as a department of the ship agency outfit of Wallem in the Philippines. By 1976, it separated as an independent company concentrating on the deployment of seafarers to ocean-going vessels worldwide. To date, three remarkable dates highlight our humble history:

Because of excellent and consistent compliance with POEA’s Overseas Employment Program criteria, WMSI was elevated to its Hall of Fame in 1988. Along with this appointment were privileges that allowed streamlined contract processing for seafarers and a more efficient crew mobilization plan for our customers.

In 1999, WMSI applied for ISO certification with Det Norske Veritas and was then among the first crewing agencies to be certified against the international standard.

Our exemplary compliance to ethical recruitment led us to receive the highest award given to a recruitment agency in 2010 when we received the Presidential Award of Excellence.

The achievement profile of WMSI places us in a position of preference for many global shipping companies.

Wallem is a household name.

Among seafaring families and communities, Wallem is readily recognizable as a maritime company. The recall stems from the generations of seafarers who have worked with Wallem onboard or ashore, including captains and chief engineers who started with us as cadets.

WMSI maintains an in-house legal team who takes on a very proactive approach to ensure that the interests of the principal are protected in situations of potential dispute or discrepancy, managing risks on their behalf so that they are reduced, if not totally avoided.

Technology

Considering the strict requirements of the industry on documentation and the urgency with which it needs to be available, WMSI utilized available storage and cloud technology to allow our customers access to critical documentation if and when needed. In addition to updating crew records for third-party crew management applications for our customers, we also maintain our own in-house system that is web-based and robust, capable of powerful reports for management decisions.
