The CD-HUB is an Interface Adapter which allows you to connect up to 4 Wallboxes to your Sony CD Mega-Changer. The hub is compatible with all 50 to 400 disc changers that have the S-Link or Control-A1 interface jack. The wallbox models can be mixed or all of the same type. Each wallbox can have its own individual song selections or all wallboxes can play from the same selections. Great for setting up your wallboxes by era, song style or special occasion. You can also connect one wallbox to other ports and have up to four songs for each selection. Programming your hub is easy, using the supplied setup CD, you can set the wallbox type and select features such as auto-play and album play. Song programming is even easier, start a song play then make the selection on the wallbox to which this song will be assigned to. All programming is stored in memory and will not be erased when powered off. The CD-HUB supports up to 4 wallboxes. It is not necessary to have all the wallboxes connected.

Each wallbox input uses 2 wires. Wallbox #1 are the first 2 wires, which begin with the red tracer (at the right hand side), the next 2 wires are wallbox input #2, the next 2 for wallbox #3 and the last 2 wires are for wallbox #4.

The CD Setup Disc Included with your CD-HUB wallbox adapter is an audio CD that simply contains 99 tracks of silence. This is used by the adapter to program the wallbox type, select features and perform operations.

CD-HUB Power Supply A DC wall adapter provides power for the CD-HUB DC power plug is a barrel-type 2.1mm x 5.5mm, center pin positive. Output is 9VDC, 300mA.

Wallbox transformer is NOT supplied

See Typical Wallbox Wiring for details.

CAUTION: Do not attempt to hook up a wallbox power supply if you are not familiar with electrical wiring, consult with a qualified individual. Do not leave any wires exposed, use wire-nuts and/or electrical tape on all connections. Improper wiring can result in a fire or shock hazard.

Selecting the Wallbox Type Insert the CD setup disc into the disc position corresponding to your wallbox type. See the Wallbox Type Select list for disc # positions. Select that disc and press the PLAY button . The setup disc contains silent tracks so nothing will be heard. The play LED should be on. While the disc is playing, make any selection on the wallbox. If the function was successful, the adapter will respond by stopping play. If more than one wallbox port is being used, then they must also be programmed. Repeat the steps above until all used ports are programmed. When a wallbox type is programmed the CD-HUB automatically enters Song Program mode. This is indicated by the CD-HUB LED always on. To exit the Song Program mode, press the Power Off button on the Sony CD changer.

Programming Song Selections To program wallbox song selections, the CD-HUB LED must be ON (see above). Select the desired disc and track then press the PLAY button . While the song is playing, make the selection on the wallbox to which this song will be assigned to. The adapter responds by stopping the song play. You can verify the song program by making the same selection again. That song should now play. Repeat the steps above for each wallbox selection or you can use the Pre-set function to program the song memory. Songs can be programmed on any of the wallboxes while in the Song Program mode.

Press Power Off to exit Song Program mode.

Installation

The wallbox adapters phone plug connects to the Sony players S-Link or Control-A1 jack.

The command mode switch must be set to CD #1.

Using Features & Operations To select a feature or perform an operation, insert the CD setup disc into a disc number position. See the Features & Operations for disc # functions. Select that disc and press the PLAY button . The setup disc contains silent tracks so nothing will be heard. The play LED should be on. While the disc is playing, make any selection on the wallbox. If the function was successful, the adapter will respond by stopping play.

Background Music Play Sometimes it is desirable to have continuous music playing when wallbox selections are not being made. The CD-HUB has a background play feature that allows the CD changer to be operated normally to play CD’s. Background play is started by selecting any disc number then pressing PLAY. If a wallbox selection is made during background play, the CD-HUB waits until the end of the song then begins playing the wallbox selections. When all selections have been played, the CD-HUB returns back to where it was in background play. The STOP button cancels a wallbox or background song currently in play. The POWER OFF button cancels the background play or use Feature 25 to manually control background playing.

48

Erase Song Memory Select this operation to clear all song memory programming. Wallbox selections will only play programmed song positions.

49

Pre-set Song Memory #1 This operation pre-loads the song memory for wallbox #1 by assigning the first two songs of each consecutive CD. This is similar to having 100 vinyl records with A and B sides. This method is suitable for Wurlitzer, AMI, and older Seeburg wallboxes that use a letter or page with sequential numbering for the A and B sides. For example, A1 plays the first song (A-side) and A2 the second song (B-side).

50

Pre-set Song Memory #2 This operation pre-loads the song memory with 800 selections allowing each of the four wallbox to have its own set of CD’s. It uses the first 10 tracks from 80 consecutive discs. Each wallbox is assigned 20 discs. Wallbox #1 starts w ith disc 1 to 20, #2 is 21-40, #3 is 41-60 and #4 is 61-80. The wallbox letter key will select a disc number and the number key selects a track on that disc. For example, wallbox #1, keys B5 selects disc 2, track 5.

TROUBLESHOOTING

Symptom Possible Cause

When the POWER button on the CD changer is pressed, the CD-HUB’s LED does not blink.

Phone plug is not inserted into the Control-A1 jack. Defective power adapter. Defective CD-HUB unit.

When a wallbox selection is made, the CD-HUB’s LED does not blink.

No signal is being received from the wallbox. (A 9-volt battery can be used to check the CD-HUB wallbox input wires. The LED should light when the battery is applied)

After a wallbox selection is made, the song did not play. Wrong wallbox type was programmed. Missing disc or programmed track not available. Wallbox signal is erratic. (see TECH NOTE below)

When a particular song was selected, a different song was played.

Wrong wallbox type was programmed. Wallbox signal is erratic. (see TECH NOTE below)

TECH NOTE Electrical pulses transmitted by the wallbox are generated by a contact arm rotating on a selector disc containing contact points. When these contacts become gummed up and corroded, the wallbox may not make the proper selection. Occasionally, these contacts require cleaning. They can be cleaned with a cloth saturated with isopropyl alcohol. Do not use emery cloth or sandpaper as this may remove the plating. On really worn wallboxes, where basic cleaning doesn’t seem to cure the problem, you may have successful results by using a low abrasive polish, such as “Scratch Out” or “Brasso”. This will make the contact surfaces shiny and smooth.
