WALKING IN GRACE: LEGALISM, THE
DEADLY ENEMY OF GRACE
Review
Humanism is the worst heresy in the present
day church.
To show grace is to extend favor or kindness to one
who doesn’t deserve it, who can never earn it and who
can never repay it.
There is nothing you can do to make God
love you less and nothing you can do to
make God love you more.
“Without faith it is impossible to please
God.”
Is your walk of discipleship made up of you trying to do things for Christ?
or in allowing Christ to do things IN and THROUGH you?
To be in Jesus is not only an outward
profession, but also an inward change of heart and indwelling of His
Holy Spirit.
We are no longer slaves to sin.
Just as you inject a turkey with all kinds
of spices, Jesus desires to inject those
who live by grace with all of His great
attributes.
When we live the Christian life by the power of the Spirit it is an easy yoke to
bear.
Romans 7:4-6
Legalism is a system in which a person
seeks to gain God’s acceptance or
blessings by what he does.
At the root of legalism is PRIDE.
It is an obsessive conformity to an
artificial standard put in place by men so
they can exalt themselves.
TIMEOUT
TWO IMPORTANT QUESTIONS:
After beginning with the Spirit, are you
now trying to attain your goal by human
effort?”
Galatians 3:1-3- “You foolish Galatians!
Who has bewitched you? Before your very eyes Jesus
Christ was clearly portrayed as crucified. I
would like to learn just one thing from
you: Did you receive the Spirit by
observing the law, or by believing what
you heard? Are you so
foolish? After beginning with the Spirit, are you now trying to attain your
goal by human effort?”
When Jesus paid for your sins they were
PAID IN FULL!
“Grace says you have nothing to give,
nothing to earn, nothing to pay. You couldn’t if you tried!”
Is your main concern to please men or
God?
Galatians 1:10, “For am I now seeking the
favor of men, or of God? Or am I
striving to please men?
If I were still trying to please men, I would
not be a bond-servant of Christ.”
When we focus on these ESSENTIALS it
keeps us from getting caught up in
the NONESSENTIALS. Peanut Butter!
VERSE 4-The ONLY life that is fruitful is
the life of Jesus Christ which lives in you
and me!
The fruit that is mentioned here falls in three categories:
CharacterConduct
Converts.
We see this desire to change for the
better in other relationships.
VERSE 6- This ability to do good works is done ONLY by the power of the Spirit
that lives within the lives of the followers
of Jesus.
This FREEDOM given by Jesus is a freedom FROM the slavery of guilt, sin’s power,
God’s wrath, satanic and demonic
authority, shame, other people’s
opinions, expectations or
obligations.
This FREEDOM given by Jesus is a freedom TO see the power of God transform your
spirit, to see the power of God
work through you, to know the love of God in a relationship with Him, the joy of Jesus and His peace that
passes understanding.
