TWENTY20

The Twenty20 competition starts this Tuesday evening 13th January at 5.20pm. The format is different this year where we have two sides in the competition, each side against 3 other teams in a round robin group with the group winner progressing to the finals. Walkerville no. 1 play against Adelaide High at Adelaide and Walkerville no.2 “Mortgage Force” play at home against PAOC on the beautiful surroundings of Walkerville. There will be pink balls used and great excitement for all involved so support the boys on Tuesday night either at Walkerville or Adelaide High. Hope to see you there!

ROUND 6 A2 – ROUND 6 VS MARION AT MARION After inspecting a very lush ground at Marion, we welcomed back one of the club’s favorite sons, Mark “Choppa” Reid. With no soccer ball we started with a teacher’s game, hand ball, to get us warmed up. Losing the toss the home side decided to bat first. We saw some very good bowling and some very wayward bowling to start the game, overall we got off to a good start. As the game progressed we were interrupted by some cricket loving bees. Will took one for the team shaking off a nasty bite, while Choppa refused to stand for 25min while he waited for the bees to retreat. He’s tough that Mark Reid! We had 149 to chase and it looked as though we were a good chance of chasing these down. Not so, after being 3 for 15 we were again on the back foot however with an 80 run stand for the 4th wicket we were back in the game and looking good for the points but after being 3 for 95 we saw another collapse leaving us all out for 126 with only two batsmen making double figures. Scores: Walkerville 126 (B Duncan 44, M Reid 34) lost to Marion 149 (J Bowes 3/30, K Bowes 2/16, W Walker 2/23). A3 – ROUND 6 VS PAYNEHAM AT WALKERVILLE In a must win game the Cats lost the toss which allowed Payenham first use of the deck. The Cats started well with Paul ‘Gladstone’ Reid getting the first break through. Darcy “Chuminda Darc” continued to turn the screws by turning the ball side ways, making it impossible for the Payenham batsman to settle into any groove. The bowlers continued to bowl tight lines with Lionel ‘Ponting’ Smith bowling a frugal spell (1/23 from his 10) and Iggy ‘Waqar’ Mareloas giving very little away. The Payenham innings was finished off with an over to spare and a small total to chase. The stand out from the match was the fielding and catching, with 5 quality catches taken which effectively was the difference between the two teams. The run chase did not start well with the cats losing top order wickets in succession to quickly be 4/17 and then 5/30. Through a stabilizing partnership Tim ‘Tiny’ Parin and Leo ‘Pots’ Panzarino were able to take back the momentum and peg back the Payenham total. After a rock solid 24 from Tiny Tim, Panzarino was joined at the crease by the flamboyant Waqar Mareolas whose 21 runs came in quick time and tore the heart out of the Payenham team.

Panz was able to bat right through for a well deserved century being not out at the end of the days play where the Cats passed the total and continue to bat on to build on its premiership points. Our side has dropped two winnable games largely through poor catching, so it was extremely pleasing to see these chances taken. A good match result which still keeps the team in the hunt for finals. Scores: Walkerville 7/206 (L Panzarion 107*, T Parin 24, I Mareolas 21 defeated Payneham 155 (L Panzarino 3/40, D Wright 2/22, I Mareolas 2/31, P Reid 2/39). B2 – ROUND 6 VS MODBURY AT HOOPER Scores: Walkerville 6/172 (M Ayliffe 62, C Cowland 26, N Ruiz 26) lost to Modbury 7/209 (C Cowland 3/34, P Hewish 2/44). C2 – ROUND 6 VS MARION AT HARRIS OVAL Scores: Walkerville 62 lost to Marion 8/193 (D Coad 3/9, B Wedding 2/35). LOC – ROUND 9 VS ADELAIDE AT LOCKLEYS OVAL Scores: Walkerville 9/57 lost to Adelaide 3/227 .

Joseph Frick –

I don’t mind telling you that last weekend I experienced massive mixed emotions upon hearing

about Chris Guccionie’s performance in the Brisbane International Tennis Tournament.

A fellow red head, Chris was the first player to blood the new Pat Rafter Arena in a qualifying

match for the main draw which filled my chest with great pride however my glowing pride went down

like a pricked balloon after hearing he was bundled out in straight sets.

I tell you it’s an emotional rollercoaster for us red heads.

Keep your ample chin up Gooch!!!!

PUNTERS CLUB

The Punters Club had a very lean week with a measly return that would be lucky to get you change for a small bottle of Coke Zero at the Sussex! KB laid 3 bets down with only the one coming home for a place, at the ordinary odds that only a favourite would pay, but as he stated it’s a return and more than his brother could contribute after 2 visits to the TAB! Wooly Reid stepped up to the plate to try and reinstate his 1st up effort where he walked into the TAB at 4pm on a Saturday and put a finger on the board and said that would do...and the rest is history! Well this time he decided to baulk the first week of betting which resulted in a $5 fine for administration costs. The following week he relinquished the title of 'Master Punter' when he returned a doughnut with his only at bat. This week sees Matho trying to get off the duck or will he join JB with a pair, and Joe Frick attempting to build on his first up effort and get ahead of the count!

RUMOUR FILE

It seems after a much publicized break up after his cheating ways this Australian Cricketing Legend has moved back into the family home to be closer to the missus and kids and back into the marital bed. Their partnership appears to be back on track after it looked like it was spinning out of control. We cannot divulge our sources, but lets just say it was a very interesting text message!!

AROUND THE GROUNDS

CJ was stoked that Punter acknowledged only him on Boxing Day after he had scored a ton against the South African’s. C’mon Punter share the love!!!!

CJ was also fortunate to run into Roger Federer New Years Eve. CJ knows all the big names but what was the Swiss maestro doing in Golden Grove and why is CJ wearing his hair??

LETTER TO THE EDITOR DARCY’S TRIP TO THE TOP END

Hi my name is Angelo* and I have been labelled in this fabricated description by Slapper and Schultzy of my time spent with Darcy in the night club called “Throb” when he was on holidays in Darwin, recently published in the WCC Newsletter. Yes I am a gay man, and when Darcy told me that he had a gun in his pocket I must admit I didn’t believe him until he showed me. I must say I have a thing for men in uniform but our time together was purely platonic and my memories will last forever. Anything else that went on is blatant lies and scandalous rumors, I would never want my little grasshopper’s feelings to be hurt in anyway. Angelo*

PLAYER PROFILE

Club Profile

Player Name – Tim Parin Nick Names – Tiny, Timmy, Tank, Big Fella Profession – Professional Driver Hobbies – Playing the clarinet or violin, they are both great, butterfly collecting, building model aeroplanes. Most Embarrassing Moment – Being told I was to tall to go on the Haunted House ride at the Royal Show when I was eleven. I was so embarrassed. Biggest Fan – I reckon those big palm leaves in Hawaii, they are massive and really keep you cool! Favourite Place – Being in my truck it’s just like a second home, no got that wrong, my house is actually like a second home as I’m on the road so much. Favourite clothes – Navy singlet and stubbies shorts with Rossi Boots! Best Bowler Faced – No one Ive seen yet but I reckon Panz thinks he has my measure however I just can’t be bothered running 4 if I smashed him out the nets. I like to give the little fellas confidence!! Favourite Food – Don’t really eat much but I love my vegetables, a nice salad would do me nicely. Favourite Drink – Hot cocco just before bed, I sleep like a teddy bear!! What Do you do Well – I drive really well, who would think that you could do donuts in a truck fully loaded. Favourite Song – For some reason I always liked “Tip toe through the Tulips” by Tiny Tim, I don’t know why!! Favourite Board Game – Twister, Its great fun but I can never get to many people to play, they’re always to busy!!! Cricketing Aspirations – To really develop my game and become the Adam Gilchrist of Walkerville!

HOT OR NOT WHAT’S HOT Attack Of The Show – For all of those with Foxtel, do yourself a favour and check out Fuel TV for the show called “Attack Of The Show”. It’s a satirical look at Hollywood, the Internet etc and really anyone who puts themselves out there for social commentary. Fans of the Walkerville Newsletter will really enjoy this show. PS- Olivia Munn who is one of the co –hosts easily makes the “Hot” list. Jennifer Hawkins – It seems our Jen has been causing a bit of commotion with neighbors after recently moving in to her new 2.2 million dollar pad at Coogge and partying through the night. Its seems Walkerville’s Miss Universe is having pool parties late at night and keeping the neighbors up. I have to admit it is important to get a good night sleep however a pool party with the most beautiful girl in the Universe as the host next door surely can’t be all that bad! Ps- where does she live again??? Graeme Smith – The South African captain has really endeared himself to the Australian public by the way he as captained and led his team against Australia no more so than yesterday when he batted at number 11 with a broken finger in an attempt to save a test match after already cleaning up the series. Some of the Aussie boys can take a leaf out of Smithy’s approach to cricket by being humble in victory or defeat and playing for your country not yourself. WHAT’S NOT Phillip Nitschke – Australia’s “Doctor Death” just brought out a new machine to help people pull the plug on themselves. Normally that would just be enough to make the “What’s Not”section of the Walkerville Newsletter however its for his dress sense this week. Everytime we see “Doctor Death” describing his new machine and what it does like, end your life, he is wearing bright colourful clothing. Floral prints and bright colours. C’mon “Doctor Death” if you want to talk about it atleast look the part!!!! Channel Nine Commentary Team – Where do you start with this lot. They are like the Titanic that has already hit the Iceberg. All Richie does now is say one liners every half an hour, Greigy shouldn’t talk because everytime he says something its wrong, Bill only pipes up if a Victorian does something good, Chappelly is grumpy all the time and we have a host who is good but he’s a ring in from England to try and give polish to the now new 3 member commentary teams. Move them on!!! Tubby, Heals and Slats are ok and with Warnie there is a good base their for the future but please stop throwing all this love Warnie’s way, everytime he comes on to commentate he gets yet another compliment, he doesn’t need anymore backslapping, he drives a Lamborghini for goodness sake. Better yet just turn the sound down and listen to the ABC on radio!!!!

Fast Forwarding Of Credits – At the end of watching a Movie on TV sometimes there are funny out takes or you may even want to know a character’s name so you stay and watch the credits however every show it seems either fast forwards, narrows the screen to promote their upcoming shows or just skips straight to the adds. This can become quite frustrating for a true movie buff!!
