Waldenhouse: AIM– To Increase Family Participation
• Pre-change rate of family participation was = 23%
• AIM was to increase family participation to 40%

THE CHANGE PROCESS
• Family members were invited to share the participant’s first meal when she arrived at the program.
• A personalized letter from our Child & Family Therapist was sent out to the participants family members and weekly follow-up phone calls were made to motivate and encourage family participation.

NEXT STEPS • A second change process occurred and during this
process the Family Psycho-education Group was moved to Saturdays to accommodate family schedules; lunch and raffles were provided as an incentive.
• Monthly Family Events (i.e. Holidays, picnics, etc.) began to be held in order to involve all members of the participants family and improve family program involvement.
• As a result of the Change Process the program staff have not only been able to sustain the changes but integrated them into the culture of the program.

IMPACT ON PROGRAM• Increased Admissions from 20 in pre-change to 23 post-
change, Retention for completers from 217 days pre-change to 229 post-change and for non-completers from 35 days pre-change to 55 days post-change, and finally our completion rates from 46% pre-change to 53% post-change.
• Program has also developed a Family Culture; it is no longer a women and children’s program it is now a family
program.
