Fact. In 1840 Captain William Hobson was

appointed governor and given

responsibility for securing British

sovereignty over New Zealand by the

negotiation of treaty between Maori and

the Crown.

people pressed him to which he did in May.

× Rangi Topera, she signed part of the treaty in May

when Henry William brought the treaty to Kapiti

island. She was the 13 women to sign it.

×Captain William Hobson signed the treaty on

behalf of the British Crown and latter became New

Zealand first governor.

× Te Kawau signed the treaty at Manukau harbour

1840.

× Te Awa-I-Taia signed the Treaty of Waitangi on 11

April 1840 when it was brought to Whaingaroa.

×In May 1840, Bunbury was paid to bring 100 of his

men to collect the Treaty signs.
