September 22, 2015

On behalf of the Cupertino City Council, I would like to welcome the Wafu School of Ikebana and the honored guests from the school’s Tokyo

headquarters on the occasion of the 45th Anniversary Flower Show.

This biennial event held at Cupertino’s Quinlan Community Center on October 24 and 25, 2015 showcases nearly one hundred and twenty highly accomplished Wafu ikebana artists who will be presenting demonstrations of their work and discussing their materials and techniques.

I am honored to recognize the dedicated teachers who instruct the

next generation of students in the art of ikebana to preserve and share this eloquent art form with the community.

Sincerely,

Rod SinksMayor

TELEPHONE: (415) 780-6000 FAX: (415) 767-4200

I would like to extend my sincere congratulations to the Wafu Ikebana Society on your “Wafu 45th Anniversary” Flower Show.

As one of the oldest and most diverse schools of ikebana in the San Francisco Bay Area, you have my thanks for your dedicated efforts in educating yourselves and your peers on the intricacies and beauty of this Japanese traditional art.

I would especially like to offer my congratulations and appreciation to Ms. Fusako “Seiga” Hoyrup, founder and president of the Wafu Ikebana Society. Her leadership and compassion have allowed Wafu to develop into the wonderful group of teachers, students, and friends that it is today.

I know that the Wafu Ikebana Society will continue to flourish and grow for many more years to come. It is my hope that all of the visitors to this show may be inspired by the beautiful arrangements. I would like to commend all of the participants in this year’s show and thank you for sharing the wonderful art of ikebana with us all.

Our heartfelt congratulations on the California Chapter’s 45th anniversary!

The tremendous effort and the many accomplishments of the Chapter President Mrs. Hoyrup and the members of the California Chapter over the past 45 years will surely culminate in a tremendously successful anniversary flower show.

Chapter President Mrs. Hoyrup, along with the members of the California Chapter, and the late Mr. John Hoyrup, whose presence is sorely missed, have accomplished amazing things together. I believe that they will

continue to give the joy of Ikebana to a countless number of people, regardless of nationality or language. I ask that all of you continue to support them.

Teshigahara Wafu-kai is extremely proud of the Chapter President Mrs. Hoyrup and all the members of the California Chapter. We also wish to see the California Chapter’s continued success resulting in the 50th and 55th anniversaries!

Finally, I would like to express my gratitude to the City of Cupertino and the Fremont Union High School District Adult and Community Education Division, which have been very supportive of Wafu-kai.

Please enjoy the Wafu-kai Ikebana Show to the fullest.

Dear Friends & Visiting Guests,

My students and I are deeply honored to present our “Wafu Ikebana 45th Anniversary” Flower Show at the Cupertino Quinlan Community Center.

I am profoundly touched by how our Wafu School of Ikebana California Chapter has grown from a small group of students more than four decades ago, to nearly 200 dedicated and artistically accomplished members. This all grew from a very modest dream I had years ago that there should be a forum for anyone, regardless of age, heritage or cultural differences, to learn the art of ikebana through the shared language of beauty.

My heart is beaming with happiness when I see the spirits and dedication of my students. It is also extremely rewarding to see some of my students continuing on with the teaching of ikebana with students of their own.

I hope the “Wafu Ikebana 45th Anniversary” Flower Show will be awe-inspiring to our friends and guests.

I would like to give thanks to the artists and special visitors who came all the way from our Tokyo Headquarters to help celebrate this very special occasion with us.

I would especially like to express my sincere thanks to Mr. Wafu Teshigahara, Headmaster of Wafu School, and Japan Headquarters for their support. I would also like to express my deepest gratitude to the City of Cupertino and the Adult and Community Education Division of the Fremont Union High School District for co-sponsoring this flower show. My heartfelt appreciation goes to my students for their hard work and dedication to the art of Ikebana.

Finally, I would like to give a special dedication to my beloved late husband, John Hoyrup, who has been with me from the very beginning of this journey. He was instrumental in the design of every detail from our very first flower show. I am sure he is with us in spirit today.

To our friends and guests, welcome and enjoy the show!

Yours sincerely,

Fusako Hoyrup 清雅President, California Chapter, Wafu School of Ikebana

Cupertino Room: Show Room 1 & Social Room: Show Room 2

We are delighted to feature Wafu arrangements to showcase Autumn’s natural grace and spectacular colors.

The unique beauty of Wafu Ikebana stems from its design philosophy, which emphasizes natural beauty.

Season by season, it is a discovery and an inner awakening to each flower’s inherent beauty. Wafu-kai arrangers strive for exquisite harmony between the flowers, the container, and the environment in which the arrangement is displayed.

We are proud to display the talent of our demonstration team! The Wafu-kai philosophy

teaches the practitioner “to arrange the flowers that you like – suitably – in a container that you like.”

This philosophy nurtures each artisan’s aesthetic sense and we are delighted to share their art!

Demonstrations are held at the Activity Room (near Show Room 2).
