Pn Nellie, BLA president was invited by the Polytechnic Brunei to give an awareness

talk on libraries entitled Information Literacy on Saturday 29 August 2015, to 20

lecturers and library staff and was held at the Centre for Innovative Teaching and

Learning on 10 th floor of PB. Puan Nellie was welcomed by Dr Malai Zeiti.

BLA wishes to thank Polytechnic Brunei for this opportunity to meet some of the

SHARING SESSION ON SCHOOL LIBRARIES DEVELOPMENT IN ASEAN WORKSHOP & STUDY VISIT TO TK PARK

On 25 August 2015, Siti Marlina and Mazarina conducted a

sharing session at the Conference Hall for all teachers of Sekolah

Menengah Sufri Bolkiah about their recent visit to Bangkok,

Thailand when attending the School Libraries Development in

ASEAN Workshop and a study visit to TK Park

Dyg. Mazalina began the sharing session with a briefing of the

outcome of their attendance at the regional workshop in June

2015 at the Universiti Srinakharinwirot, Bangkok, Thailand. The

workshop was attended by librarians from ASEAN member states.

The second session was delivered by Siti Marlina of their visit with the Brunei Darussalam

Library Association delegation on 13 June 2015 to TK Park which is also known as the Thai

Knowledge Park. TK Park is nestled in a busy shopping mall and is a lively and colourful library

for the young and old.

Both Dy Siti Marlina and Dy Mazalina both members of BLA wish to express their appreciation to the Brunei Darussalam Library Association for giving them this golden opportunity to attend a regional workshop which was an eye opener and a great experience discussing and sharing ideas with school librarians from other ASEAN countries.

Pn Nellie touched on the importance of reading and the use of information and libraries before

sharing pictures of major Brunei libraries and libraries around the world. She ended her talk by

introducing the Brunei Darussalam Library Association to those present.

DEWEY DECIMAL CLASSIFICATION WORKSHOP BY Siti Marlina Ali, Library Assistant Grade II,. Sekolah Menengah Sufri Bolkiah

The School Resource Group 3 organised a DDC Workshop from 8 to 10 September 2015 for officers and

staff of the school library nationwide. It was held at the Dewan Kuliah 2, Sixth Form Centre Sengkurong,

Jalan Mulaut. It was conducted by Pg Hj Mohd Shahminan Pg Hj Sulaiman. Senior Librarian from the

Brunei Islamic Library, State Mufti Department.

On the first day, participants were briefed on the history of DDC and introduced to the DDC class 000-

400 and how all material are classed according to the code and class.

On the second day, the DDC 500-900 was introduced and on how to use tables and a practical hands on

session.

On the third day, there were firther practical sessions and a question and answer session.

The workshop ended with the presentation of certificates to all participants

25 TH BRUNEI TEACHERS DAY AWARDS 2015 "Teachers-The Catalyst of Visionary People".

His Majesty Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Mu’izzaddin Waddaulah, the Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of

Brunei Darussalam presented awards to teachers during the 25th National Teacher’s Day Celebration on

23 September 2015 at the International Convention Centre.

Seven teachers were honoured r their significant contributions to education and to the development of

other fields, including religious studies, literature and culture.The awards came under three categories:

the Sultan Haji Omar ‘Ali Saifuddien (SOAS) Education Award, the Exemplary Teachers’ Award and the

Excellent Teacher’s Award.
