Introduction

The following is a compilation of records pertaining to the family known as

Wabikwans/Wabicons/Wapikons/Wapikontz/Wapiwas/etceteras. It appears they were

also later known as Fisher.

From Catholic Church Records of Oka, 1843:

29 August 1843, after the publication of one bann at the solemn mass of this mission

and the dispensation of the other two as well as the impediment of the third or fourth

degree of consanguinity, marriage of Michel Wabikwans of this mission, adult son of

Louis Pensan and Angélique Minondakokwe who give their consent, and Catherine Ik-

wewic or Anantchiadjiwanokwe, minor daughter of Ignace Inini who gives his consent

and Susanne Kijiadjiwanokwe, Algonquins. Present: Amable Weonting and Amable

Pakwakona.

From Catholic Church Records of Ile aux Allumettes, Chapeau, St. Alphonse,

of Pontiac, Province of Quebec, 1859-1876:

Michael Wabiguans - St. Alphonse Allumette Island the 30 Oct 1864, we the under-

signed priest of this mission have interred in the cemetery of this parish the body of Mi-

chel Wabiguans, husband of Catherine, who died the 25th at the age of 40 years (Note

by Randy - born circa 1824). Were present J. B. Perrault and Xavier Dolbec who de-

Felix Michael Wapiquos - On this 31 July 1886, the body of Felix Michael, son of

Michel Wapiquos and Sarah Stoqua, and who died the day before yesterday (29 Jun

1886) of diphtheria at the age of about eleven months was buried in the R.C. graveyard

of this place in the presence of Mathew Stoqua and Amable Stoqua. Signed P. S.

Theresa Fisher - On this 8 Apr 1896, we the undersigned blessed the body of

Theresa, aged seven months, who died on the 6 instant (6 Apr 1896), daughter of the

Ignace Wapikoens and Margaret Pilon - On the 6 Nov 1886, after the banns of mar-

Fort William, on the one part, and Marguerite Pilon, minor daughter of Abraham Pilon

blessed the remains of Kittigaw Wabigoosh, known also as Ignace Fisher, an Indian of

Petawawa, who died of pneumonia at the General Hospital here the 21 instant (21 Mar

1911) at the age of 65 years. The body was afterwards taken to the cemetery here and
