WA Seniors Awards 2013Nomination Booklet

Presented in partnership by:

As the Minister for Seniors and Volunteering, I encourage you to nominate outstanding seniors and those who excel in working and volunteering with seniors, for the WA Seniors Awards 2013.

This is an opportunity for us to recognise the incredible work done in the community for and by seniors.

I am aware that Western Australia is on the cusp of a major change, with seniors making up almost 20 per cent of the population. It is imperative for government, service agencies and individuals themselves, to plan for the future as well as respond to the needs of today.

I am proud to be part of a Government which recognises seniors and provides a range of services, programs and assistance.

I know first-hand that seniors show a strong interest in community affairs, volunteering and helping their families. When I go to community meetings and events, it’s often the seniors who are there time and time again, lending a hand.

Please take the time to acknowledge a senior in your community by nominating them in one of the five categories in the WA Seniors Awards. The awards encourage support for seniors, raise awareness of the varied and many ways that seniors contribute to society, and recognise those who work with and volunteer for seniors.

The Bendigo Bank Seniors Week Festival takes place from 10 to 17 November 2013. Winners of the WA Seniors Awards will be named at the award ceremony on Sunday 10 November.

Thank you to Bendigo Bank, the principal sponsor of the Seniors Week Festival and our key WA Seniors Award sponsors, Juniper and beyondblue.

It is time again for us to recognise the remarkable efforts of our seniors.

The Bendigo Bank Seniors Week Festival 2013 and the WA Seniors Awards are an opportunity for us to say “thank you” and “well done” to seniors and those who help and support them.

One of the rewarding things about being involved in the WA Seniors Awards is hearing the stories that emerge during the nomination process.

Through these stories we find renewed inspiration and respect for the work that people do. The awards also allow seniors to be publicly recognised for their dedication and support to others in the community.

Please take time to think about nominating someone in your place of work, community or family who inspires, encourages and supports seniors either in a paid or voluntary capacity. Some categories apply to people of all ages and self-nominations are also encouraged.

Nominations close at 5.00pm on Monday 12 August 2013 and the winners will be announced at the WA Seniors Awards on 10 November.

As the voice of older Australians, COTA WA asks you to help us to make this a spectacular event by nominating individuals and organisations that deserve our thanks and recognition.

Thank you,
