Word 5 – Activity 1 Situation: Your boss has asked you to prepare a handout highlighting all the cell phone carriers in Utah and the top rated phones for each. He has created several documents, but they have not been formatted to look professional. Your job is to format these documents so they are easy to read and professional looking.
Instructions:
1. Open Word 5 – Activity 1Text file located on the shared drive or your teachers website
2. Select the entire document and make the following changes: a. change font to Cambria 12 pt b. change margins to 1.0
3. Using Word Art add the following title Cell Phone
(Choose your own font)
a. Change the text wrapping to tight
b. Fill word art with Cell Phone Numbers image located on R:/Shared/Comp Tech/Word 5/Data files Hint: Word Art Tab > Shape Fill > Picture
c. On the Word Art tab change the Shape Outline to While
d. Drag the title so it is centered between the left and right margins
4. Format & Organize information –
a. Format section titles AT&T, Sprint, T-‐mobile, Verizon • Select the title “AT&T”
• Change to a 14pt font & Dark Blue font color
• Change to Bold, Shadow, & Underline
• Using the format painter icon to change the other section titles so they are formatted the same as “AT&T”
o Select “AT&T”
o Double click the format painter icon
o Highlight the remaining titles
o Click the format painter again to turn off or press esc
• Using the change case button or shortcut key change the section titles to all caps

5. Select the text under each section and set the following tabs

6. Using the Drag & Drop feature or Cut & Paste functions move the Verizon section to the end of
the document.
7. Insert a Cell Phone clipart of your choosing a. Change the text wrapping to tight b. Center the clip art so it is centered at the bottom of the page c. If needed resize the graphic so it fits on the bottom of the page and does not interfere
with text
8. Add a page border a. Box border b. Change the color to blue c. Width to 4 ½
9. Turn on the show hide button and check the number of spaces between each section. Your document should be on one page
10. Add class Header/Footer
11. Change the document properties Hint: Office Button > Prepare > Properties a. Author: Your name b. Title: Word 5 In -‐ Activity 1 c. Subject: Class Period
12. Save as Word 5 -‐ Activity 1 to your student drive

Word 5 – Activity 2 Situation: Your boss has just received notice from Verizon wireless that they are offering a special on their new Motorola Droid smart phone. He has created a document with all of the information but it needs to be formatted to look like a flyer.
Instructions:
1. Open Word 5 – Activity 2 Text file located on the shared drive or your teachers website
2. Apply the Title Style to the headline Motorola Droid a. Center the headline b. Change the font of the title to 48pt. Cooper Black, or a similar font.
3. Select the first paragraph and make the following changes a. Times New Roman b. 16-‐pt font c. Full Justify
4. Bold the words “iPhone killer" in the first paragraph
5. Insert the Motorola Droid and Motorola Droid 2 image below the first paragraph.
hint: click off the first image before inserting the second. Make the following changes to both images
a. Change the text wrap to tight
b. Change the picture height of the Motorola Droid image to 2.5
c. Change the picture height of the Motorola Droid 1 image to 2.0
d. Move the pictures so they are positioned in the center below the first paragraph
e. Add a the metal frame Picture Style
f. Rotate images so one slants to the left and the other to the right. Hint: green circle locate at the top of the picture

a. Apply a yellow shape fill to each star. Move the stars so they are centered under the title

Word 5– Activity 3 Situation: Due to the rise in texting and driving accidents, your boss has decided to make an information sheet that can be given to customers about the dangers of texting and driving. Right after he created the document, the computer crashed and all of his work was lost. He doesn’t have time to recreate the document so he has asked you to do it. He has given you a print out of what it looked like and some general information.
Instructions:

Admit it….You've done it….You've been driving down the street or even the highway when your phone, blackberry, or whatever you use to call and text with goes off. You immediately grab it, even though you are driving in traffic and really shouldn't. It isn't exactly breaking news that texting while driving is a bad idea. Did You Know
• Texting takes a driver’s focus away from the road for an average of 4.6 seconds — enough time… to travel the length of a football field at 55 mph.
• Texting and using iPods caused drivers to leave their lanes 10 percent more often. • Fines for texting while driving can range from $100 - $750 • Jail time - "death by dangerous driving," is handled similarly to a drunk driving charge, and carries
a recommended sentence of four to seven years in prison.

3. Take a screenshot of the contents of your Word 5 folder
4. Add a class Header/Footer
5. Print the screen shot and attach to your Word 5 packet
6. Save the screenshot to H:/Computer Tech/Word/Word 5 as Word screenshot
