The mainhouse was converted into ameeting space, called theDrake Room, the upstairsmaster suite became thebridal suite and the two-cargarage is now the groom’slodge. The full-service salonis still there and run byStacee Shelton-Fiese.Macy Nichols and Melanie

Noffsinger serve as eventplanners. The property wasdeemed Southern SpringsEvents and Salon.“It’s happened the way it’s

supposed to happen,”Nichols said.The salon continued serv-

ice when Shelton-Fiese washired in February. The firstevent at Southern Springs’barn was Trigg County AgDay lunch in July, when themain event barn was not yetfinished. Soon, brides andgrooms were booking theproperty for weddings, thefirst booking was Matt and

Courtney Keller on Oct. 24,and Lynley and Ethan Taylormarried there on Oct. 3.A barn on the property had

been updated with acid-stained and heated concretefloors, which enable year-round events. The barn couldfit about 200 people. Threechandeliers hang from thebarn’s ceiling. The back endof the barn features largeglass windows that can be

rolled up to “achieve theopen air barn feeling whenthe weather is nice,” Noff-singer said. The windowslook out to a stone patio.“We do have two large koi

ponds with plans to add athird one closer to the eventbarn,” Noffsinger said. Thelargest pond has a gazebowith a dock. The other pondis home to mallard ducks,which are featured in South-

ern Springs logo and brand-ing.“The whole property cre-

ates a perfect backdrop forany pictures,” Noffsingersaid.A silo painted with the

venue’s themed colors ofdark green and white sits ina field. Corn, soybeans andwheat are grown around theproperty. And Chris Boydtakes care of the grounds.

In addition to hosting wed-dings and receptions, thevenue is available for birth-day parties, wedding or babyshowers, reunions, holidayparties, fundraisers or corpo-rate meetings.Although Southern

Springs doesn’t offer cater-ing, they have a holdingkitchen in the event barnand the main house for out-side caterers to use. Thevenue has its own liquor li-cense so bar services areavailable to those who book.Even if an event venue is

not something you need atthe moment, the salon isopen for services includingsunless tanning, women’scuts, styles and coloring andmen’s trims and cuts. Shel-ton-Fiese’s services can alsobe added to wedding pack-ages.For more information

about 35 acres at 110 JohnRives Road and began to de-sign the building with archi-tect Chris Spur. The buildingis a dairy barn design with asilo. The main room is about800 square feet and should fitabout 500 people. Those numbers put The

Silo “right in the middle” asfar as venue size in the area,Maria Bolinger said. Largervenues are the James E.Bruce Convention Centerand Valor Hall, whilesmaller venues includeSouthern Springs, BurdocFarms, Sugar Grove Car-

The Silo will house officesfor Bolinger Appraisal, Har-ris Real Estate and Auctionand also the event venue it-self, which Maria Bolingerdescribes as a versatile “inti-

mate Southern structure”that resembles a traditionaldairy barn with exposedwood beams, polished con-crete and chandeliers.“There’s nothing like this

in west Kentucky,” BenBolinger told the New Era inJanuary.There’s opportunities to

have indoor and outdoorevents, including weddings,receptions, birthday parties,company events or others.The Purple Tie Ball, an eventto benefit the Alzheimer’sAssociation, will be at TheSilo on Aug. 27.There are about 15 events

already booked at The Silo.The Bolingers set up a Face-book page in January andthat is the venue’s only ad-vertising so far. A website isin the works and should bedone in about three weeks.
