A Summer Ladies Bible Class will begin June 4th and meet through the summer on Tuesday mornings at 10:00 a.m. in the library. The study will focus on the Gospel of John.

2019 Summer Series“Walking in the Steps of Jesus”

Sister Leotta Weston of Rabun County Church of Christ passed away at 104 years of age. She was a true servant of God, working her adult life serving Christ however she could.

Summer Bible Camp is just a few weeks away! Camp Wetoga’s cost this year is $160 per child for a week. We still need a couple more Camp scholarships! If you would like to donate to help sponsor a child, please see Barry Pritchett or one

of the elders. Thank you!Session 1: June 9 – 14Session 2: June 16 – 22

“You can’t go back and change the beginning, but you can start where you are and change the ending.” -C.S. Lewis

I know that the holiday weekend we celebrated last week probably has lots of us spoiled. The weather for us was picture postcard perfect. There were celebrations held all around reminding us of the men and women who gave their lives for the freedom we so often take for granted.

One of the highlights of last weekend was watching the Memorial Day concert held honoring the occasion. PBS broadcasted it from our nation’s capital. There were

several families that had lost loved ones that talked about their families and the void they felt in their lives.

I couldn’t help but reflect on the loss our community suffered when we lost Lt. Noah Harris. Susan and I had been out of town and came back after hearing of his death. When we were traveling north on Highway 515 in Ball Ground, we saw the yellow ribbons that had been placed in the median of the highway all the way to Ellijay. Those ribbons didn’t stop in town but went all the way into Dawson County to where his mom and dad lived. Our community was reaching out to a family that had lost an only son. May he rest in peace and may we never forget ALL those who gave all!

I want to remind you that you have an invitation to be with us in Hiawassee any time you possibly can. It was great having Jerry and Alice Cole with us last Sunday. They brought Miss Wanda with them, and it was her first visit to Hiawassee. We had 29 in attendance, and on Monday we had a church picnic at the building. There were 23 that came, and we had four non-members attend. Only one of them had visited the congregation since I started preaching in January. Please keep the Hiawassee work in your prayers.

Sermon Notes

Did you notice anything different when you pulled in the parking lot this morning? Our new digital sign is up and running serving as a great way to advertise the events of the church and increase visibility to people passing by. Fortunately, there are plenty of things to put on the screen because our busy summer slate has begun! Today is the beginning of three weeks of Bible camp at both BCC and Wetoga, and we know our youth and adults will benefit spiritually from being involved. If you have never been to

a week of camp, you are missing out on a great experience!

The Summer Series begins Wednesday night as Mike Gurganus from the Ringgold church kicks us off by diving into our theme of “Walking in the Steps of Jesus.” This year’s lessons will examine the many names given to Jesus in the Bible and share how understanding Christ will help us to emulate his life more fully. The lineup of speakers is tremendous, and we are looking forward to them being here!

Vacation Bible School is right around the corner, and we need YOUR help! If you can help in any way, please see Josh Chancey to find out where you can fill a need. The success of VBS relies on all of us working together. More details will be available next week, and we are so excited about this excellent opportunity to reach out to our community and build our church family up!

Our lesson this morning focuses on courage. My prayer is that the message will be well received and that we can all learn to be more courageous in our spiritual walk. There is no room for cowardice in the Kingdom of God!
