FSU QUICK FACTS
DEFENSE TOPS IN NATION » Trotting out four freshmen each game, the
Florida State defense ranks first nationally with a .990 fielding percentage, with just five errors in 14 games in 2019.
» The Seminoles last ranked in the Top 100 nation-ally in fielding percentage in 2014.
FLOWERS HOMERS & EARNS SAVE vs. VT » Junior J.C. Flowers, who has started 113 games
in centerfield at FSU, made his first appearance on the mound against Maine (2/17).
» Flowers struck out two batters in a scoreless 9th inning.
» He picked up his first career save against Youngstown State (2/22) and also pitched a perfect ninth inning against Mercer (3/3).
» Against Virginia Tech, Flowers notched his third career walk-off win with a three-run double with FSU trailing 8-6 in the 10th inning.
» In Saturday’s win vs. VT, Mike Martin’s 2,000th of his career, Flowers earned a two-inning save and hit a home run.
» The last player to hit a home run and save a game for Florida State was Mike McGee against Florida in the 2010 World Series. McGee was named that season’s John Olerud Award winner as the nation’s best two-way player.
COOP THERE IT IS » Sophomore first baseman Cooper Swanson has
five home runs in the past seven games, tied for the team high.
» Against Mercer, Swanson hit three home runs (one in each game) and tallied six RBI.
» The Fort Myers native hit a pinch-hit HR against the Bears Friday, broke a 1-1 tie with a three-run homer on Saturday and extended FSU’s lead with a HR Sunday.
» Swanson hit first-inning home runs in both of FSU’s wins against Virginia Tech.
MENDOZA SHINES VS. BEARS » Junior captain Drew Mendoza hit three home
runs against Mercer, including two in Sunday’s series finale, and is tied for the FSU lead with five on the season.
» Mendoza tied FSU’s game vs. VT (3/8) with a two-run double off the CF wall (FSU won in 10th). He had FSU’s only hit against VT in game 2 (3/9) and broke a 2-2 tie with an RBI single in the 7th inning against the Hokies (3/9).
GAME NOTESMARTIN LEADS FSU PAST YOUNGSTOWN STATE » Freshman Robby Martin was 8-for-12 with 8 RBI,
3 doubles and a home run in FSU’s three-game sweep against Youngstown State (2/22-23).
» Martin hit his first collegiate home run against the Penguins (2/23). He was a combined 7-for-8 with 8 RBI in the doubleheader.
» Martin was named the ACC Player of the Week (2/25) for his efforts. He is the first FSU fresh-man since DJ Stewart in 2013 to earn Player of the Week honors.
» FSU’s 24 runs against Youngstown State (24-2 win, 2/23) were the most for FSU since also scoring 24 against USF in 2015.
NOLES NO-HIT MAINE IN SEASON OPENER » Three Florida State pitchers combined to throw
Florida State’s 10th no-hitter in program history against Maine (2/15). FSU beat the Black Bears 11-0.
» Drew Parrish (1-0) went 5.0 innings and allowed one walk and struck out 5; Conor Grady threw a career-high 3.0 innings and struck out 4; and junior Chase Haney, making his first appearance since 2017 after Tommy John surgery, pitched a scoreless ninth inning.
» The no-hitter was FSU’s first since 2016 and fourth under head coach Mike Martin (solo no-no’s in 1988 and 1998).
» It was FSU’s 7th shutout in a season opener and the first since a 12-0 win over VMI in 2011.
» It is the second known no-hitter on Opening Day - Davidson’s Wes Self tossed one in 2001.
FRESHMEN STAND OUT FOR NOLES » Robby Martin leads FSU with a .389 batting
average, but Nander De Sedas (.286) and Elijah Cabell (.317) are also hitting the ball well for FSU.

» FSU’s fourth freshman starter, Mat Nelson, hit his first collegiate home run in the second game of the Youngstown State doubleheader.
» Martin had 6 RBI against Youngstown State, all in the first three innings. It was FSU’s first 6-RBI game since Drew Mendoza did it in 2017 and the most in the ACC this season.
» Martin’s 5 RBI against Maine (2/15) were the most for a Seminole freshman in a season opener. His five RBI were the most on Opening Day for any Nole since junior Gage West had five in 2016.
NEWCOMERS PRODUCE AT PLATE AND MOUND » Twelve total players made their FSU debuts in
the season-opening series against Maine. » Carter Smith (3B/DH) and Nico Baldor (1B) start-

FOSTER WALK-OFF LEADS FSU TO SERIES WIN » Catcher Jonathan Foster is one of just four
seniors on the 2019 team. » In limited action last season behind All-Amer-
ican catcher Cal Raleigh, who was drafted in the third round of the MLB Draft by the Seattle Mariners, Foster hit .214 with two home runs.
» None of Foster’s hits were bigger than his pinch-hit, two-run walk-off home run against Louisville on March 30.
» Foster’s home run was FSU’s first walk-off HR when TRAILING a game since Mike McGee’s two-run HR gave FSU a 7-6 win over Miami in 2010 (had five walk-off home runs in tie games in that span).
» Both of Foster’s home runs in 2018 came as a pinch hitter - his first was in his first career AB as a Seminole, a three-run HR against Troy (2/23).
» Foster hit his first home run of 2019 against Virginia Tech (3/8).
STADIUM IMPROVEMENTS » Over the past two seasons, Mike Martin Field at
Dick Howser Stadium has seen two important renovations.
» Prior to the 2018 season, a new video board was unveiled. At the time, it was the second largest in college baseball.
» Prior to the 2019 season, the weight room under the grandstands was renovated with state-of-the-art equipment and over 1,800 square feet of workout space.
PLATE DISCIPLINE & EFFICIENCY » For the seventh time in the past nine seasons,
Florida State again led the country in walks drawn by a sizeable margin in 2018.
» The Seminoles have drawn 109 walks in 111.1 innings played in 2019.
» FSU drew 14 walks in game two against Maine, its most in a game since also drawing 14 against Villanova in 2016.
