THE COLORS OF ASEAN IN JAKARTA Jakarta, July 25th 2014 – It’s an hon-

our for Indonesia to have the chance

in hosting one of the most important

events regarding the preparation of

ASEAN Community 2015, this Au-

gust. The three main objectives of

ASEAN Community 2015 are namely

the acceleration of vision in political-

security, economic, and socio-

cultural among ASEAN countries. As

one of the pioneers of the ASEAN

countries, Indonesia has a significant

role in conducting notable events for

the organisation. For example, dur-

ing the ASEAN Summit that was held

in Bali 2011, Indonesia contributed

to the nuclear weapon free zone

agreements in Southeast Asia or

Southeast Asia Nuclear Weapon Free

Zone (SEANWFZ).

However, the role of Indonesia can

not be separated from the participa-

tion of Indonesian youth. In the

event entitled ASEAN Youth Expo

2014, Indonesian youth shows their

concern for ASEAN growth. “In the

spirit of welcoming the establish-

m e n t o f A S E A N

Community 2015, we have to pre-

pare our youth to be ready in terms

of knowledge, skill, and network.

They are the driving force to shape

our future towards a forward-

looking ASEAN Community. Hence

we need to constantly socialize the

issue until everyone, especially

young people, know about ASEAN

Community 2015 so they will be able

to realize how important their role is

and get themselves ready,” said Min-

ister of Youth and Sports of the Re-

public of Indonesia, Roy Suryo.

Forty youth delegates from all over

ASEAN countries will gather at fX Sudir-

man, Jakarta from August 8 to 11, 2014

for ASEAN Youth Expo (AYE) 2014.

Themed “Gateway to ASEAN”, AYE 2014 is

hosted by Ministry of Youth and Sports of

t h e R e p u b l i c o f I n d o n e s i a

and organized by On That Point (OTP) In-

stitute of Artistic Speaking in the purpose

of creating a strong network between

ASEAN countries through their youth.

Aryo Moedanton, AYE 2014 Project Offi-

cer and Managing Director of OTP Insti-

tute of Artistic Speaking, hopes this forum

can create a space for discussion which

intrigues innovative ideas to be imple-

mented as real action for a better ASEAN

Community.

The delegates will engage with

each other in a three-day activity includ-

ing workshop, film screening, discussion

session, and cultural learning over tradi-

tional games and cultural expos.

Not only introducing ASEAN cultures, AYE

2014 will also help young people prepare

their future by providing career and schol-

arship expo and workshops. In addition to

gathering all the information you need to

know about your future career and edu-

c a t i o n , y o u

can also enjoy enchanting cultural per-

formance presented by the delegates.

ASEAN Youth Expo is definitely a fruitful

festival for people who want to experi-

ence cultural diversities from

10 countries, get educative information,

expand their network, and even develop

new soft skill; all for no-charge at all.

What are you waiting for? Let’s celebrate

our spirit as the youth of ASEAN!

ASEAN Youth Expo 2014 Tools Youth

Towards Positive Change

by Christian Alamodin

The Ministry of Youth and Sports Affairs of

the Republic of Indonesia invites movers

and shakers of the youth movement all

over Southeast Asia to expand and im-

prove their knowledge and skills while

forging connections and relationships with

like-minded individuals in this year’s

ASEAN Youth Expo.

The international affair will be held from

August 8 to 11 at the FX Sudirman, in the

heart of the Indonesian capital Jakarta.

The Indonesian Minister for Youth and

Sports affairs, Dr. Roy Suryo Notodiprojo,

will grace the event to answer any ques-

tions the media might have regarding the

contents and motivations for pushing

through with the event.

The Ministry has planned four days filled

with opportunities for youth leaders to

bond and exchange ideas with their peers.

Activities like the Scavenger Hunt and

Congklak (a traditional game for Indone-

sians) will give young leaders an opportu-

nity to get to know and interact fellow

figures from the different member nations

of the ASEAN. The Cultural Night plans to

introduce the delegates to the different

ASEAN nations to foster camaraderie and

a stronger connection in the area.

The exposition of youth talent also plans

to broaden the youth’s knowledge with

events like the Dream Catcher workshop

and the Coffee Diplomacy activity the

youth delegates will undertake.

These activities plan to light a fire in the

hearts of these delegates through intelli-

gent ideas and discussions that will

enlighten the youth regarding the prob-

lems surrounding their respective nations

and the ASEAN as a region and an organi-

zation. Expos for opportunities on scholar-

ship and careers will also help the youth

shorten the gap that separates their coun-

tries.

The ASEAN and its member nations be-

lieve that the youth holds the key to a bet-

ter ASEAN and a better world, and they

hope that this year’s Youth Expo can help

start the positive fire of change that will

engulf the region in love, unity and under-

standing.

About the ASEAN Youth Expo

The ASEAN Youth Expo is in part of the

Republic of Indonesia’s Preparation for

welcoming the ASEAN community in 2015.

The Expo aims to inspire, unite, and moti-

vate their member nations’ youth to ac-

tions that will help foster the fulfillment of

their dreams as ASEAN youth and unity

across the region through different activi-

ties.

About the ASEAN

The Association of Southeast Asian Na-

tions was established in Bangkok Thailand

on August 8, 1967. There are 10 member

states, all coming from the Southeast Asia

region, that meet in order to discuss the

betterment of their economies, regional

peace, and diplomatic cooperation among

them.
